hahaha...i may be too young to know what a Tandy was but the image is amusing... not sure why people go to such lengths to mess with people who post on bulletin boards though...surely there are more interesting pastimes!

Money is just a means of creating wealth - it is not the wealth itself. When people appreciate this, they tend to have more fulfilled lives. Enjoy the weekend, next week will be fun.

For those who seek even more risk than BARC offers, GGG may enjoy a strong run next week! ;-)

I created "purple sound" as a tribute to the legendary "purplesound" (aka "dnroberts").
Purp ran an investigation company and his company could identify any ADVFN poster easily.
He would then command his underlings to hunt down and kill posters who disagreed with him.

Purp told us he also headed a Trading Team based in the City.
Unfortunately his true identity was found.
Purp had an Employment History with Dixons, Tandy and Burger King.

My trading portfolio was down £100k this year at the start of the week now down about £80k. Since I started trading (investing) overall I'm up around 50%. I only ever invest money that I would be comfortable writing off.

I also buy into a managed equity income fund every month to which I pay costs of £50 for my £800 investment.....overall its down 20%, so much for the pro's.

Not Tenby. A 250k loss can be bigger than a 2m loss to some. Even a 25k loss to an old person can be a killer. The loss I had wasn't an easy come easy go loss. I did well through hard work and lost it easy so the easy go part is correct. It's rare you get people that are honest about losses on message boards but you can bet there are many. I got wiped out in 89 big time but had my comeback many years later. It's always possible to turn things around all you need is youth .

Yup Cat100 has been around for a long time and has discussed those losses way back. They are not alone as my losses were £250k in the bank crash. Again it was all paid up stock and did not break me. Although it was hard to see such losses on my savings which basically killed any chance of early retirement. Have manged to recover £60k of it back and reduced my mortgage by £50k in the last 3 years and continue to work hard at it!!!

I work for a company that supplies the NHS and provided some equipment for a child from Kuwait. It seems that with all the other equipment he or she needs the weight and oxygen requirements of the patient exceed the limits of what the commercial airlines can handle. The Kuwait Health Office is sending a private jet from Kuwait to fetch the child.

As Ken says what is pin money to some is a fortune to the rest of us.

As most of you will remember I always made around £10 million a day trading Barclays.

I no longer post on this thread because some didn't believe me.

Unfortunately "shorting" can dramatically improve an equities liquidity.

A knock on effect of that is keener prices and opportunities for holders to reduce/increase their equity holdings more easily.

It also flushes out the weak holders.

I still don't believe they should be able to borrow shares without the true holders express permission - Nominee holders wouldn't know if their shares were on loan or not.

Its not perfect but it does have some positive aspects to it.

I think short selling will prevail. As the yanks are saying they tried banning it over there and it didn't work. It will not work in Europe as traders find ways around it in a very complex market with so many different financial tools & products.

yes my own money every penny. Still own my own home a holiday home and have cash in the bank . But for what I lost I can live with. A lot of friends and acquaintances didn't . I have attended 9 funerals of people I knew and loved that took their lives over losses they couldn't live with.So Zen your wrong there. Many on advfn know me and can vouch for me I dont tell lies

"laughing at people losing money"

you make the assumption....the problem with assumptions is....THEY ARE NEVER TRUE :)

I was replying to the coment made by monty ""Barc went from 50p to 350p last time."

I have not read the whole tread...and was not responding to folks who have lost money :)

I never make personal assumptions...thats one thing i have learned in life :)

ps Losing £10 or £1M+ no big deal...no one died
