Open Letter: Our Water, Our Way
Dear Steve Reed OBE MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Emma Hardy MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Water and Flooding),
Your government promised swift and decisive action to reform the broken water system. And yet, you are overlooking the solution that would reflect the global norm and which 82% of the British public already supports: public ownership.
England’s water infrastructure is on its knees. The regulators have failed to prevent illegal activity from every water company in the country. Citizens are paying eye-watering bills. The companies are in dire financial straits because of record payouts to those at the top, with some approaching insolvency and requiring public cash bailouts just to stay afloat. |
A message from Lloyds Banking Group: Right now, over 1.5 million households across the country are on waiting lists for social housing. At Lloyds Banking Group, we are continuing to champion social housing and that’s why we have supported £19.5 billion of funding to the sector since 2018.
The pair wrote that HMRC may force banks to give them the personal information of account holders to claw back tax owed on interest income from their pay packets. Savers are liable for tax on all earned interest above £1,000, but in many cases this goes unpaid (often by accident).
And closer to home … U.K. negotiators now have just five days to get a carve-out from Trump’s looming April 2 tariffs on British cars and a whole load of other products. The BBC is reporting that British car manufacturers will meet ministers this morning. Tick tock. |
Net zero closing Britain down:
To make steel, good quality coking coal with a high carbon content is needed but the proposed Whitehaven mine in Cumbria, which would have served that purpose and created thousands of much needed jobs, was quashed by the High Court in 2024 on 'environmental' grounds and Labour refused to support the project so it's hardly surprising that British Steel's Chinese owners have taken the action that they have.
Look on the bright side. Britain will be net zero and we can buy dubious quality steel from abroad that is not net zero..

North Korea Tests AI-Equipped Drones, Unveils First Early Warning Aircraft (Photos)
Support SouthFront
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un witnessed the testing of “various kinds of reconnaissance and suicide drones” produced by the country’s Unmanned Aerial Technology Complex, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) announced on March 27.
The new drones are capable of “tracking and monitoring different strategic targets and enemy troop activities on the ground and the sea”, while the attack drones will “be used for various tactical attack missions”, KCNA said, noting that both drone systems have been equipped with “new artificial intelligence”.
After witnessing the tests on March 25 and 26, Kim agreed to expand the production capacity of “unmanned equipment and artificial intelligence.”
The leader also emphasized the importance of creating a long-term plan for North Korea to promote “the rapid development” of “intelligent drones”, which is “the trend of modern warfare”.
Other photos showed a large reconnaissance drone, very similar in design to the United States military’s Q-4 Global Hawk which was developed for high-altitude operations.
The photos also mark the first time North Korea has showcased its shadowy airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft.
North Korea’s efforts to build an early warning aircraft were previously reported when satellite images revealed that Pyongyang was converting a Russian-made Il-76 cargo aircraft into an early-warning role. Russia, China, India, and Iraq all used the Il-76 as a base for their own AEW&C aircraft.
Kim inspected the aircraft, the official designation of which is not yet known, at Pyongyang International Airport earlier this week, according to KCNA . The aircraft will “play a significant role in monitoring potential threats and gathering critical information,” the leader reportedly said.
During his visit to the test site, Kim was also briefed on intelligence-gathering capabilities as well as electronic jamming and attack systems newly developed by the country’s electronic warfare group, KCNA said.
Tensions have been building up on the Korean Peninsula for a few months now. North Korea has conducted multiple weapon tests since the start of the year. Meanwhile, the military of South Korea continues to carry out joint military drills with the U.S.

No Ukrainian Counterattacks Stop Russian Offensive On Zaporozhie Front
Support SouthFront
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation do not stop developing their offensive on the southern Zaporozhie frontlines. On March 25th, the Russian Defense ministry officially confirmed the full control of the village of Malye Scherbaki.
The Russian troops continue offensive operations in different directions from their stronghold in Pyatikhatki. To the north, Russian forces won battle for Malye Scherbaki. They approached the southern outskirts of the village about two weeks ago. Having gained a foothold on the southern streets, they were repelling the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the northern outskirts, securing control of the areas nearby.
Russian victory in Malye Scherbaki strengthened their control of the strategically important road, along which the line of Ukrainian defense was laying. It also increases pressure on Ukrainian positions in the village of Scherbaki located to the east.
At the same time, the Russian troops advanced north of Pyatikhatki and Zherebyanki and launched assault on Ukrainian stronghold in Lobkovoe. Russian assault groups gained a foothold in the village. Fighting is ongoing in the center.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine sent reinforcement to this direction and attempt counterattacks on the outskirts of Stepovoe in an attempt to repel Russian forces from this stronghold. Encounter battles continue without any significant changes of the zones of control.

Journalists must be able to report on Ukraine without fear of attacks — UN spokesman
Meanwhile, the world organization itself has no right to investigate the killings of Russian journalists by Kiev without a proper mandate, Stephane Dujarric pointed out
UNITED NATIONS, March 26. /TASS/. Journalists should be able to cover the conflict in Ukraine without fear of being targeted by servicemen, UN Secretary-General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a briefing in response to a TASS correpondent’s question.
"It is imperative that journalists be allowed to do their work without fear of ever being targeted or harassed," he emphasized.
According to the spokesman, the UN has expressed its condolences over the death of Channel One correspondent Anna Prokofieva in the Belgorod Region.
"First of all, we send our condolences to the family and colleagues. Again, we have seen journalists pay the ultimate price in this conflict, as they have in others," he said.
Meanwhile, the world organization itself has no right to investigate the killings of Russian journalists by Kiev without a proper mandate, Dujarric pointed out.
"As for an investigation, I do not believe we have any [at the moment]. I mean, unless we are invited to do so, [we don’t have a] proper mandate," he stressed. |

Ukrainian combat group hits its own mines upon escape from Sudzha — Russian army engineer
There were both wheeled and tracked vehicles with Ukrainian crews and military personnel blown up on the minefields, he specified
KURSK, March 27. /TASS/. The Ukrainian combat group was blown up on its own minefield upon its escape from the settlement of Viktorovka north of Sudzha in the Kursk Region, the acting head of the Regiment South’s Engineer Service with the call sign Pegas told TASS on Thursday.
"During the operation to remove minefields near the settlement of Viktorovka in the mine clearance area, we came across the fact that the enemy was blown up on its own minefields. It turns out that they [Ukrainian troops] were retreating very quickly and unknowingly were blown up on their own minefields," he said.
There were both wheeled and tracked vehicles with Ukrainian crews and military personnel blown up on the minefields, he specified.
The Russian commander told TASS earlier that Ukrainian troops had meticulously laid minefields at approaches to settlements in the Kursk Region. The minefields also became an obstacle for civilians to evacuate from the settlements of Malaya Loknya and Viktorovka in the Kursk Region, he added. |

'Ireland - Trump cites pharma tariffs
US President Donald Trump has said the US will be introducing tariffs on pharmaceuticals, specifically citing Ireland among the countries where many pharmaceutical products are made.
Speaking in the Oval Office last night, Mr Trump said the tariffs on pharmaceuticals are aimed at bringing the pharmaceutical industry back to the US, claiming the US does not "make anything" in terms of drugs.
"It's in other countries, largely made in China, a lot of it made in Ireland.
"Ireland was very smart. We love Ireland. But we're going to have that," Mr Trump added. |
