Solon wants Chinese envoy summoned over China’s recent WPS ‘intrusion’

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government should summon the Chinese ambassador to explain the recent intrusion of China in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said Tuesday.

Barbers made the call as he urged Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who recently condemned China’s presence in the West Philippine Sea, to “walk the talk” in case the Chinese ships do not leave the contested waters soon.

Inside Wall Street’s top trading firms, however, some executives had an idea of what caused the move. A trading whale -- Bill Hwang’s Archegos Capital Management -- was building a massive position in ViacomCBS Inc.

Banks around the world kept giving Hwang the leverage he needed to acquire more and more of the stock. What they couldn’t see, according to people with knowledge of the situation, was the full extent of his wagers. He stealthily amassed $10 billion of Viacom and colossal positions in a few other companies.

The holes in oversight and risk management are one reason banks were so vulnerable when the Viacom bet unraveled and Archegos imploded last week.

Manics : yes, that would be par for the course lately !

Seems to be a small barrier at 190, but once we are through this things should get quite energetic I hope !

The general read over the weekend is very positive in the coming weeks ie: economy opening up and strong, housing market still flying, pound's in the pockets and staying predominantly within the UK this summer so plenty of organic growth..the feel good factor seems to be arriving, I guess we have to see, but here's to hoping this week puts us above the 190 mark...

Heads and bonuses roll at Credit Suisse as Archegos and Greensill scandals trigger

Credit Suisse today admitted its first quarter was likely to see a loss of CHF900 million (£690 million) after it was hit by last month’s blowout of the Archegos Capital hedge fund and said it would cut its dividend and executive bonuses and shed key executives.

The international banking giant is looking increasingly accident prone after also finding itself in the middle of the Greensill scandal and today said Brin Chin, CEO of its investment bank, and Lara Warner, chief risk and compliance officer, would both step down.

It said it faced a CHF4.4 billion hit from Archegos, which imploded after share price falls meant it suddenly had to sell positions to meet margin calls on stock it had borrowed.
