18/2/2021 06:21 | 17 Feb, 2021 23:24 Ahead of Barclays's latest full-year results, UBS analyst Jason Napier told clients he was forecasting fourth quarter profits before tax of £153m, which would be flat on a year ago. The lender's tier one capital cushion was however expected to print at 14.6%, for an 80 basis point increase on the year before. Net interest margins were seen largely stable in comparison to the preceding two quarters, for a full-year drop of 50 basis points to 2.59% on average. However, net interest income was seen falling by 8% on the quarter and by 20% in comparison to a year earlier. Looking to 2021, the shift in mix towards mortgages and government guaranteed lending for small and medium enterprises and away from credit cards seen during the prior year was expected to weigh on NII. Commercial and investment bank revenues were also expected to normalise. All told, income was seen falling by 5% over the course of the year ahead. Even so, profitability was expected to improve as loan losses diminished with potential for "outperformance" on capital distributions, the latter possibly thanks in part to loan loss reserve releases in 2022. "Given the attractive valuation, we remain Buyers of Barclays," Napier said in the same research note sent to clients. | ![]() johnwise
17/2/2021 20:53 | Sales & Trading Likely To Enable Barclays Stock To Surpass Q4 Revenue Estimates. Barclays (NYSE: BCS) is scheduled to report its fiscal Q4 2020 results on Thursday, February 18. We expect Barclays to likely beat the consensus estimates for revenues, while its earnings are likely to be lower than the expectations. The company reported third-quarter revenues of $6.77 billion – down by 5% y-o-y. It was driven by lower core banking revenues – Barclays UK and consumer, cards & payments units suffered due to the lower interest rate environment and a drop in consumer demand, partially offset by growth in market-driven revenues (sales & trading). We expect the same to drive the fourth-quarter results. Overall, the bank is expected to report a slight drop in the full year 2020 revenues on a year- on-year basis. (Note: - Barclays reports its results in Pound and the same has been converted into U.S. Dollar for ease of analysis.) Our forecast indicates that Barclays valuation is around $7 per share, which is 12% lower than the current market price of around $8. 17/2/2021 17:18 | Its in the lap of the gods now, lets hope that our end of month targets : 163p , 180p and 200p at least average out the share price by then . I am guessing the results tomorrow will read something like this (summarised) : "Its been a challenging year for all financial institutions with consumer banking bearing the brunt of the pandemic. Barclays has set aside considerable write downs for bad debt but has had its balance sheet bolstered by the Investment side of the business which continues to outperform the market. US and European markets have steadied over the past 6 months leading Barclays to believe that there is significant growth to come as the economy begins to return to strength due to the rapid vaccine take up. Mortgage applications have increased of late and thus Barclays board has instructed the reinstatement of a 3.7% dividend as of May 1st 2021..bring on the roaring 20's !!" ....gla and lets hope fortune favours the brave 🤞🤞 | ![]() prbshares
