Job loss warning from Blackrock boss Larry Fink

That's according to the man who runs the world's biggest money management firm. Blackrock manages nearly $9tn (£6.6tn) of pension and investments.

When the boss of the world's biggest investor speaks, those company bosses listen. He wants them to explain how they are going to get to net zero over the coming decades.

But he also admitted that starving polluting companies of cash too quickly would mean dramatic job losses.

"If we all ran away from the hydrocarbons and everything, and if you ran away with most of those companies in the FTSE [100], the job loss in the United Kingdom would be extraordinary. Is that the outcome that they want?" he told the BBC.

US Fed chair worried by cool economy

Declaring that the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic is not over, US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell pledged to keep the monetary spigots wide open to aid the pandemic-hit US economy, brushing aside concerns that the super-easy stance would spawn a stock market bubble and too-high inflation.

He spoke fervently about the plight of those whose lives have been upended by COVID-19, repeatedly pointing to the 9 million Americans still without jobs as a result of the pandemic.

It was a message for some Fed officials who have entertained the notion that the recovery could be stronger than expected, requiring the central bank to start pulling back on asset purchases this year.

In that regard, it was premature to talk about tapering the Fed’s massive purchases of US Treasury and mortgage-backed bonds, Powell said, adding that it would take “some time” to achieve the threshold for reducing them from their current clip of US$120 billion per month.

They could announce the intention to pay a delayed dividend. That would improve sentiment.

I'm not sure they will announce it on the 18th ..but it could happen. Jes is keen to reinstate the divi for shareholder confidence and returns. Will it be soon or applied late summer ? Should be around 4.5-5%. I want to be long in Barc again with a steady climb into the 180p + region but the market constantly seems to pull her down. We know barc has good cash reserves, we know the IB has performed very well and we obviously know that the consumer bank has taken a licking.

I will leave it to Manic and those on this board who call barc well to let the band of merry investors know when the share price points to the potential of a northern trek and then its gla !

You are quite correct. Apologies. The PRA have punted it to the bank bods for final decision. I remembered it to be under review, but still with the PRA.Earlier last year Jes stated he wanted to and was healthy enough to. I'm sure there would be 'collusion' but who would want to be the bank come February reporting season that gets left out in the cold not posting a divi, if your peers do?Banking is built on confidence, after all....but is it then priced in?

They can't announce a divi as the regulator has not yet permitted them to do so.

Well lets hope you are right :-)

Must admit my positions in Lloy/Barc/LGEN etc are about 25% of what they were a few months ago, so whilst I retain an interest its not as significant as it was.

Must admit I don't really see the need for bank branches anymore. Think I've been inside a bank twice in the last 10 years, thats only to put cheques in when I couldn't use the app. When our local NatWest shut it had 50 customers a week. About what our greggs has in an hour.

Been out and about and came back to 135.5p ... quite surprised considering the mornings start. Manics/ diku , any thoughts on where she may or may not be heading ? It would be nice if the mid to low 130p's were to be the start of a recovery long but it is a crazy market at the mo so anyone's guess!
