well what a pump and dump this had been!...just goes to show when something seems too good to be true(barclays share price rise),then it probably is!

Sheik's shares will be placed and so unlikely to appear in the market yet.

Yesterday trading volume was 92 million (top quartile) and Maximum daily volume since June 06 is some 359 million. Assuming there are multiple buyers and they don't dump them, then the short term problem will be an emotional one, but any sales shouldn't thereafter swamp the market.

If Barc do fall this am, other banks may follow in sympathy. share price dilution is a possibility when UKGVT puts its shares back in the basket too ?

Could be. But with a lot of people thinking the price had got ahead of itself anyway, even without this news, an avalanche of selling wouldn't surprise me. S3 is 277 and short term traders will want to try and get out at the off.

Phew, that's handy for those with shorts. Price likely to tend towards the 260-270 placing price.

Funny, didn't monty warn of this? He doesn't get it right every time but he has got good instincts.

Another extract re Sheiks sale

The Abu Dhabi sheikh whose investment in Barclays last year helped the bank avoid the humiliation of being bailed out by Government money has seen the value of his stake double and has decided to sell his holding of more than 1.3bn shares.
...
Bankers at Credit Suisse have been appointed to handle a placing of the shares, which are expected to sell at about a 50p discount to last night's close.

Yes, if you have 10,000 Barc sell and get 43,000 Lloyds.....

Further to above: if JPM raise the money as easily as Wells Fargo did a few weeks ago, it could be very bullish indeed for all banks.

Those selling Barclays to buy Lloyds are surely sensible.

US banks were dull today and the news after the close is that JPM need more cash.

by the time they have 'cleaned themselves out' sp's will be 3-5 timeswhat they are now.

shorters will ultimately lose their shirts i think.

kid, i won't buy banks until they all clean themselves out. the crunch has a long way to go. nothing's changed excpet more money flooded into the system. that's why these new money are sloshing around and risk takers allocate them to wherever they see fit. that's why indices are rising nominally but very very few real value/wealth is created. bonds sell-off shows no signs of abating. i'm perplexed why equities can remain high. but technically important thing is today high didn't touch new intraday high in the past three months. and the market fizzled out at the close. shorters will eventually make big bucks i think.

There are some fabulously rich people on this bulletin board.
One of the pleasures we get is the knowledge that losers try to muscle in on our wealth.
I won't name names (but they do leave huge clues).
