What about the hudreds of thousands who moved to Germany from Africa and the Middle East specifically to claim benefits? Their incomes will have to be protected. A promise is a promise.

Angela Merkel crisis: German output plunges to ‘devastating’ level with ‘no silver lining’

GERMANY’S industrial output has plummeted to shocking unexpected lows, sparking further fears Europe’s biggest economy is on the brink of recession and piling pressure onto under-fire Chancellor Angela Merkel.

We have always had more in common with America and commonwealth countries than mainland Europe, sorry if remainers don't like to hear it. The refusal so far of any other european country to join the tanker protection in the gulf is a perfect example.

Portside - Well I've had a brief look and I suppose they could be a reasonable recovery play, however, I have personal reservations about anything to do with pensions as I don't see how they can survive in the long term.

My wife and I have been collecting our pensions for over 20 years, at a fixed rate of 8.16%. So we've already collected over 163% of our original pot and I just don't see how it can go on for ever.

Trump is doing something previous presidents were to weak to do - hold Communist China to account for their appalling behaviour. They flout trade agreements, intellectual property rights, engage in massive commercial espionage, surpress minorities, inter millions in re-education camps, land grab (sea grab?) the South China Sea. It is a dangerous anti western totalitarian government, who previous presidents have helped grow stronger.

Point taken Warranty but withdrawal of an agreement which goes back to 2016 is a bit worrying I think especially when other manufacturers are considering their options too. Even more sad I fear is that 61% of Sunderland voted out of the EU when it was benefitting from non-UK investment. Says it all I suppose - not necessarily about those who voted but the lack of a proper debate about what Brexit would entail before people rushed to put across in the box without having all the facts

Although I think it's more important to protect jobs and thereby the economy the Irish issue is probably the biggest thorn and extremely painful to pull out without causing any long-lasting pain, and I suspect infection. Whatever you think about May I sympathise and doubt that anything could have been negotiated any better. BoJo is just an arrogant nitwit who thinks he can do better with bluster
