On Wall Street, Goldman Sachs took the biggest hit. This week the firm reported profits had plunged 40% in the second quarter on its bond, currency and commodities trading desks.

Hi there, my view is these will power ahead on investor cash moving into financials on improving reporting and with interest rates starting to tick up, this is supportive of further gains.

barc is saying today-- User access is changing

For added security you can’t give access to your account to others, for example, your partner or financial advisor. However, any existing Power of Attorney (POA), executor or court appointed third parties will be carried across to Smart Investor and this will become a telephone only service following the move.

hmmmmm but as above link by Manics some can use it ?

Barc is not listening to some of investors who got more then 200K in a/c and use for partners a/c at present to manage a/c .
got no problem with more fee to pay , problem is they going to lose few long term accounts on this and they will not help them .
IC on Fri wrote on them .

BARC wanted to lose customers like us with the changes you are making? Moving our investment accounts would inevitably mean the closure of the Premier Bank accounts as these would be superfluous. We both already hold bank and investment accounts with other providers so the business would transfer easily to them. What’s more I am told you it will facilitate this free of charge, do you really not want our business?

in this week’s article a comment by Clare Francis, head of customer engagement and content

Smart Investor customers will also no longer have access to their spouse’s accounts or be able to give access to third parties with an authorisation letter. “We will still offer joint accounts but, because our system is now integrated with online banking, through the online banking portal, we are not able to allow people to access each other’s account for security reasons,” explains Ms Frances.

The point about security does not make any sense , what is different to now when partners are accessing accounts – why is the new arrangement more secure. In fact, it is less secure. At the moment to look at investments and banking you have to enter two different sets of data, in future just one login will allow a fraudster to empty both bank and investment accounts. Seems a security own goal to me.
Barc ready to lose customers but not ready to listen so far.

T
om Hayes, the trader jailed last year for his role in attempts to manipulate Libor, has written to the head of the Serious Fraud Office over fresh claims that the Bank of England was aware of how the key benchmark was “lowballedR21; in the run-up to the financial crisis.
Hayes, a former UBS and Citigroup trader who is serving 11 years for conspiracy to defraud, has maintained that many banks submitted Libor rates that reflected the market and also suited their commercial positions, with the tacit blessing of regulators.
The daily rate is meant to measure how much banks expect to pay to borrow from each other, and is used to set the rates in $300 trillion-worth of loans around the world.

The housing market supported solely by Ponzi finance:

‘Average earnings are £25,000, so the property value should be £100,000, but we are far above that ratio now – just as we were at the end of the Eighties. ‘The whole of modern history tells us the prices are bound to fall.

Am I the only one who finds the rank hypocrisy of all these people 'claiming' they didn't understand PPI so are claiming the fees back quite unpalatable? If you don't understand what you are signing for then don't sign or ask someone in the know! If you signed and didn't understand you should not be left in charge of your own money because you are giving it away. I know of at least two friends/acquaintances who signed uip[ in the full knowledge of what they were signing for, but, having not claimed on the PPI policy and all the publicity began on the so called 'misselling' claimed successfully for all their premiums despite knowing what they had signed up for! To this day they are still quite happy to tell people that they did so! If you don't know how a product works and you sign up for it...you lose the money..its your fault!!! But not in todays world where it HAS to be someone elses fault!

The only aroma here is the rank stench of alleged fraud and criminality.

I can't even attempt a long scalp on results because I would not rest knowing that I was attempting to profit from a criminal enterprise (should that be duly proven in a court of law).

Yes it should slump.
Yes it should be red.
Yes we should remove this dinosaur brand from GB PLC.
Break it up.
Sell it.
Live in the now.
