When a bank is disappointing
I made a payment against my ccard balance days later the bank took the balance again! After a call I was told it takes 5 working days to get it refunded. 3 calls later still not received the refund. My transfer was instant why not process my refund instantly ? 15 days later still waiting….:(

Wrong deduction from acct
Like many people I cleared my credit card account, 6 days later the bank took the same amount from my current account causing me to go overdrawn. When I queried this I was told it would take 7 days to return my money. 10 days later still nothing returned so contacted Santander and made formal complaint. I was told at this time refund would be made that day.
2 days later phone call from complaints department who agreed bank was at fault and amazement that refund hadn’t been made still. Small compensation given. 2 days later refund minus £1300 in current account. Further complaint made to Santander. Case on going 18 days later ….

I am struggling to believe how bad the customer service is
I am struggling to believe how bad the customer service is. I made a transaction, they blocked it, I made another transaction, they blocked it. I have money in my account. I opened my online account, I was in txt conversation with them for over an hour, nothing was achieved, I was told then to phone customer services. I asked them why I needed to phone them to authorise payment for items I was trying to buy as I was already in conversation here on line, no response. I clearly see why they have the lowest customer service ratings, their attitude towards me was appalling, their staff didn't seem to have a clue what to do, I was passed on to three departments, none of which could sort out a simple payment issue.

THEY HAVE RUN-OUT OF MONEY
Everything to do with moving my own money. They actually called the police on me when I went to Maidenhead branch to try to sort out. Then tried to arrest my male friend who had not said a word or done anything wrong. They ran out of answers. Cost me 5k more than original price as they steadfastly refused to make transfer and blocked account. They are NO LONGER supported by Santander SA and don't appear to have any money.

They are holding on to my money and will not release it. i have been put through to every single department, all of which say they can not help.
I am now day four and still on hold and on my fifth department. next call will be the police as they are illegally holding my money. i do not have an overdraft or owe them anything. can not get my head around this at all.... DO NOT USE SANTANDER.

Terrible bank
Terrible bank, my local branch Northumberland St. Newcastle upon Tyne has the slowest counter service on earth. A full ten minutes at the counter, never mind the 15 minute wait to get to the counter.
I was asked by the teller what I wanted to use the money for that I had requested, I replied that that was none of her business. She stated that it was new Santander policy to ask customers what they wanted the money for and if I didn't respond then I couldn't have (my own) money.
Not content with that, she wanted a further form of ID, this despite Santander having copies of my driving license and passport and with my card already in the machine.
I suspect that this teller just told me a bare faced lie having took umbrage at my questioning of the ridiculous wait time. To cap it off when I finally got my money this teller all but threw it at me.
I recorded the whole unsavoury incident and may yet post that on social media.
It's pointless lodging a complaint with Santander, they have a well earned reputation for ignoring them.
I'll be switching, the very best form of protest.

I have had the worst experience at the hands of what you eccentrically call your customer service agents. In short, their total incompetence and dishonesty left me with an inexplicably cancelled card which made a weekend trip away extremely stressful, especially given that my wife is pregnant. Since then I have lost count of Santander's lies and broken promises. You also have a very secretive and oppressive attitude that would make a North Korean bureaucrat blush. One of your complaints managers repeatedly and rudely refused to divulge the criteria you use to arrive at compensation decisions and then, insanely, told me that he couldn't give me contact details for his department manager for "cybersecurity reasons"! What have you got to hide?

rubbish bank. 17 times I have been embarrassed by santandont, bank card. the 3rd time I had the police call on me because I could not pay for my fuel because the card would not work and there was loads of money in it. and that was at a fuel station near London I live in Morecambe. today I went shopping and the card again would not work so I went home to get my pin and that would not work so I had to go back home to get cash. I am a disabled man and I don't walk well. so tomorrow the bank is getting changed. IF ANYONE HAS A SANTANDER CHANGE. IAN LOAN MORECAMBE. AND THERE IS NO BANK IN MORECAMBE NOW THEY CLOSED IT AND TRYING TO PHONE THEM (WELL) 2 HOURS AND YOU MIGHT GET THROUGH.

Transfer of funds twice resulted in account being blocked
I undertook an online transfer of funds from an account in my name to another account in my name. A transaction that I had done several times previously. After approving the one time passcode the transaction was rejected and my account was blocked. It took 30 minutes to unblock the account and the fraud department offered neither explanation nor apology. Two hours later I repeated the transfer as a test but this time the sum was ONE POUND. The transaction was rejected and the account blocked again. The agent questioned my honesty and also wanted to know what the pound was to be spent on! Santander do not respect their customers.

If I could give no stars I would!
Poor communication, unempathetic, rude and unprofessional staff. A block was placed on my account due to a suspicious transaction. I was left without my funds for 21 days. Delayed so much work I had planned to pay for. Made countless number calls and I was told each time expect a call from 'back office', who cannot even be contacted directly and only called after I made countless number of calls to Santander customer service and complaints department. Also said 'protecting my money' - YEAH RIGHT!
AVOID, DO NOT BANK WITH THIS AWFUL BANK! Only a matter of time this will happen to you!

Terrible Bank
Terrible Bank. Always blocking my personal accounts, our business accounts, even when you pass all the security. They are a real pain in the behind! Cancelling Google Pay Cards even after sending messages saying we can Google Pay. Security is great but not when it is excessive and becomes a hinderance whilst trying to run a business or simply transferring money to your own accounts!! ..... They need to remember, it's our money, not theirs!!

Business account frozen and no one can help, staff were not paid and we are told the bank still needs more information, information we have already provided. It took a week to sort this out and my business has to face the consequences. This is shocking. Avoid at all costs. Ignore what they say, they do not care about customers or businesses large or small.

Bullying Bank
Went into the Grimsby branch to make a cash withdrawal. I realise that one has to be cautious, however, they were bullying to the point of rudeness in their objections. In the end I achieved my objective but it left me with a very bad opinion to be lectured over and over and literally over again not to withdraw my own money and do what I like with it. It felt like this young person over the counter had a hugely inflated opinion of their own power. I've now changed banks.

Santander Blocking customers from their own accounts
Santander blocked me from making a payment to someone today, even after the usual never ending 'Are you sure you want to pay this person?' and several versions of the same question over and over again. Then they simply denied the transaction and locked me out of my own account!!!
They instructed me to phone them. I did so, already fuming. But after an hour of answering further obtuse questions about payments I've paid out or had paid in, while they blocked me from seeing my account or statements, making it impossible to answer his questions, he said things like 'Take some time to think', 'Any transactions over the past month'? The bizarre questions continued, over and over and over like some torturous game.
The young guy from North of England seemed to be enjoying this torture, and even after I'd answered as many questions as I could while being blindfolded from my account, he would STILL not unblock my account unless I told him how I knew the person I was paying. Then WHY I was making the payment. I just kept repeating that it was NONE OF HIS BUSINESS. It was the most appalling banking experience I have ever had in my 60 odd years on this planet.
It's obviously far more to do with Santander being fined nearly £200m by the FCA for allowing money laundering, that's caused them to go over the top with ordinary customers. Either that or they are 'cutting off their nose to spite their face' as myself and my son will now be closing our Santander Accounts as I NEVER want to go through what I endured today.

They block my account
They block my account when I try to transfer money to pay for services. It happens a lot. They hate it when you remove you money. I absolutely detest santander bank. I don't have this problem with other banks.
They close the phone lines so you cannot contact them out of hours when it's urgent. Now I have payments outstanding.
Edit....More of my life wasted today phoning santander to get my account unblocked. I really could do without the stress when I'm trying to transfer my own money. See how long it is before they block me again.

Not customer-oriented, bullying bank that will try its best to block money coming out of your account
The first problem I had with Santander was when one of their employees stole money from my bank account (in the past). I called them and the first thing they did was trying to (aggressively) blame it on me. After insisting, they finally checked the origin of the transfer and realized it was from their own bank. They refunded me, but that wasn't a good sign.
The latest problem I had with Santander was when I tried to make a bank transfer. Not only did the bank block my payment, they also blocked my online banking access. I had to phone them and spend in total 3h including going to a branch (what if I had been abroad??) just to have them reopen my online access. The person on the phone literally bullied me into phoning other people which had nothing to do with my problem just so they would unlock my online access.
In the end, I proceeded with the payment with another bank (Wise) and that took 5 seconds.
Another problem with Santander is that you cannot reach them online. They have NO contact email, and they do not answer when you answer to their automated emails. They say that you can use the online chat, but it almost never work and when it does it is just a bot that will ask you to phone them anyway...
Conclusion: I have been with Santander for about 10 years but I have had enough. I will move my accounts to Nationwide, which I heard lots of good about. Of course, that is if they let me close my account...

Unhelpful, Insensitive, Agressive & Unreasonable
Sadly this lot have gone down hill at Epic speed. I have had to raise 3 complaints in 4 days with them. The last one was when they shut down my accounts when i needed to make a payment of £2k for works done on the house. They refused to reinstate me - even when i passed security unless i went to a branch and brought in all my ID. Even when i said i was going on my honeymoon they were faceless and dis-interested and said that if i wanted to get my account unfrozen i must go into a branch - and yes they knew we would miss our flight.
We have borrowed money to go away - i will be closing 3 accounts with them soon as i am home.
@ Santander - pls dont write a patronising reply saying we are really sorry and pls get in touch to discuss etc etc yada yada. You had ur chance today to avoid this crisis you have caused me, i never want to have anything to do with you AGAIN!

Absolutely rubbish bank, been with them less than a year, had my card blocked several times and lost access to my online banking for 4 weeks. Now I've broken my leg and I get my account blocked (again) rang them and they said the only way to fix is to go into branch and show them ID, don't know how they expect me to get there without any money. Useless bank, DO NOT USE!

Declining payments
Declining payments, then sending texts to verify it was me making the transaction. Simply for £30. Well it wasn't really a transaction was it because you essentially prevented it, therefore prevented me access to my own money. If you're in such a financially fragile state that you're frightened over a £30 purchase enough to deny my purchases I'll be better banking with someone else. Now looking for a better bank.

GDPR Breach by the Sewer Rats at Santander
As well as the previous two complaints connected to stealing £50 from me and multiple lies told in writing by their corrupt staff they have now breached GDPR and shared my private data with another company.
Steer clear of these sewage rats.
