If this co. cannot thrive in this period, then there is something very wrong with Govt. programmes, and with it will become a merger with a US defence concern, even with the UK Govt. Golden Share principal!

Thinking these will be part of my 'core' portfolio, sadly I don't see the world getting anymore peaceful anytime soon.

Couldn't resist adding some more at 464 , though I was too slow to hit the opening prices today. Looks like a classic market over-reaction to the really surprising news that Greece and the Euro are in trouble..

Hi Zeppo, cross Ribble two times on way to work, its full and running clean. Used to live near the Darwen (Darren) but now closer to the Douglas. Currently at the site near Balderstone but have been at both Preston sites and a few years at Chadderton as well as being an on site rep at a customers base.

How's the Ribble running this year? Plenty of water?

I was brought up at Pleasington with Canberras circling around from nearby Salmesbury (possibly on test flights) when I was a kid.

My river was the Darwen which joins the Ribble in what I believe is your patch. (from previous thread chat way back.)

We have had little consistent rain in Hampshire where I live now .

'Her indoors' worked for BA. Dynamics Division, (which closed or at least her part of it did) - then RAE/DERA from which QQ was privatised.

We are in BA. and QQ.

The Harriers had their uses and were ground attack, unlike Typhoon so could have assisted the Tornados which have been kept on for their current ops. They also could operate from OCEAN and RFA ARGUS. Not seen anything on MPA. Second hand Orions, maybe.

@Ribble,

Point being - we now have carriers,but no aircraft to go on them!!! hence they should have kept them a couple more years Even with radar issues something is better than nothing,especially as they were decent VTOL aircraft.

With regard to the Sneaky requirement for surveillance aircraft - no missed that.
£2bn set aside for 6? Remind me of anything? Nimrod debacle?

Fangorn, we had no carrier when we sold them. They were not the best type to put on carriers (no radar, always helpful over water) and the expense of keeping them until a carrier was available would have been pointless. Changing the subject, or aircraft at least, have you noticed the sneeky requirement for surveillance aircraft? A requirement for a fleet of twelve maritime patrol/surveillance aircraft has been ideentified, £2 bn set asside and a realisation that they may only get six for that price! Does this remind you of anything?

@Ribble,

Whilst that may be true,they still had some life in them, they were sold on the cheap, the result being we have aircraft carriers with no aircraft!!!

Not smart planning.

Shouldve kept the harriers another year or so as cover - cut foreign aid bill instead if they were sold off to save money

Most of the Harriers sold to USMC were reaching end of life and are mainly being used for spares. The US can make them under license if they wanted to.....

Aircraft was always going to be 18 months after aircraft carrier delivery..there were teething issues I recall with the F-35B takeoff/landing which accounted for some delay.

Certainly shouldn't have sold all those Harriers to the USMC

It's quite a formidable aircraft. :)

Fangorn2 - "before we take delivery for our aircraft carriers."

I assume this is the aircraft that the ships were designed to carry only somehow our shipyards managed to deliver early (Must have been on double rates) or are the aircraft late ha ha!!!

Anyway, like you say, will be an awesome combination when they finally get together.

Quite incredible isnt it. Here's hoping they get any other issues ironed out before we take delivery for our aircraft carriers.

How short is the run up? Looks pretty impressive.

Thanks Fangorn. I note comment on 1939 hangar at Salmesbury. I went to the F35 production line at Fort Worth some years ago and they are being built in a hangar used to build the Liberator during WW2. It is a mile long historic monument.
