BAE Systems is set to open a new artillery production facility in Sheffield, backed by a substantial £25 million investment.
The development, spanning 94,000 sq ft, will bring 50 high-skilled jobs to the area, strengthening the UK’s homegrown artillery capabilities.
The Sheffield site will specialise in the production of the M777 lightweight towed howitzer. This move aligns with the UK government’s ambition to boost and maintain essential defence capabilities within the country.

If Turkey can still buy F35s they can buy Typhoons and likley will. Before Qatar? |
Rather depends on whether Turkey is a friend , a foe, or like most countries, somewhere in between , at this point in time.... Hard to imagine Turkey has its eyes on an expansion West. The traditional cross-roads between East and West it wants to trade in all directions I think. |
LOL
So precious |
From the DT
“ Workers at a British fighter jet factory have warned that production has “essentially stopped” amid fears that the Royal Air Force (RAF) will in future buy US-made aircraft instead.
The BAE Systems plant in Warton, near Preston, was until recently assembling Eurofighter Typhoon jets for Qatar following a £6bn order placed by the country seven years ago.
But with that work now winding up, and no similar orders outstanding, “essentially production has stopped for British-built Typhoon aircraft”, union chiefs have warned. |

plus with the US not in Europe NATO will have to restock fast. apologies ..I think that has been said by others already. |
I do declare another ATH. |
I mean that without the US as a policeman around the world - (I agree Trump is NOT keen on war) - Wars will break out because the parties fomenting war know the US will NOT intervene.
I say this with great sadness and hoping that I am wrong. |
5679. Totally agree. |
No not really. Trump is not a war mongering globalist. They rose because he will insist Europe pays its fair share into NATO |
The jump in the share price is due to the market's perception that war may break out just about everywhere post-Trump re-election. |
The UK government has reiterated its commitment to the Tempest programme, a next-generation combat aircraft initiative jointly developed with Japan and Italy under the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).
Responding to a question raised in Parliament by Neil Shastri-Hurst, MP for Solihull West and Shirley, about the future of Tempest, Defence Minister Maria Eagle highlighted the importance of the programme for the UK’s strategic defence objectives. |
