Yeah like watching paint dry. Mind you, I would be a very nervous ship builder if they just slid it in like some of the container ship launchs. |
Wad, re 5649. It just takes all the fun out of the process! |

"Despite its improving financial performance, the company’s rising share price means it now trades on a relatively lofty price-to-earnings ratio of 20.8. Its bottom line, though, is expected to rise by around 11pc per annum over the next two financial years. This helps to justify its rich market valuation and suggests that further capital growth lies ahead.
Unfortunately, BAE has not been a member of Questor’s wealth preserver portfolio until now. We have excess cash available following recent sales, which will be partly used to fund the stock’s inclusion in our portfolio.
Although the company’s share price has risen significantly since our initial tip, its solid financial position, vastly improved operating outlook and sound strategy mean it continues to merit purchase on a long-term view.

Launching a sub is clearly not as exciting as launching a new boat; a gentle lowering without a splash. Won't create much of a dockside crowd! |
Agamemnon, the latest Royal Navy Astute Class attack submarine has been launched at BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Named after the ancient Greek king, Agamemnon is the sixth of seven Astute Class submarines, all of which have been designed and built at the Company's historic Barrow shipyard – home of UK submarine building. The nuclear-powered boat, which weighs in at 7,400 tonnes and is 97 metres long, rolled out of the Devonshire Dock Hall and entered the water for the first time today. Agamemnon will now begin the next phase of its test and commissioning programme, before leaving Barrow for sea trials with the Royal Navy. |
sadly this will go to £14 and beyond now. |

BAE Systems’ prototype payload was successfully integrated onto the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a mission to demonstrate improvements in atmospheric temperature profiling and environmental monitoring capabilities, among other missions and technologies.
The payload launched in collaboration with the ISS National Laboratory and Airbus U.S. Space & Defense, Inc., which supplied the hardware facility for the mission. The payload arrived safely to the ISS as part of a NASA commercial resupply mission, where it was integrated onto the station with the help of astronauts onboard. Blippy3 is obviously a bit too stupid to understand what Lammy said:
“I speak not only as a Briton, as a Londoner, and as a foreign secretary.
“I stand here also as a black man whose ancestors were taken in chains from Africa, at the barrel of a gun to be enslaved, whose ancestors rose up and fought in a great rebellion of the enslaved.
“Imperialism. I know it when I see it. And I will call it out for what it is.”
I can only imagine that the greatest speech blippy3 has ever made is "salt and vinegar?". |
Blippy, you're a bit confused. Lammy didn't phone the Russian. He berated him for using his phone during the meeting. As for the remark about Lammy's racial identity, you have missed the point entirely. I don't like Lammy. And previously I've been very critical of him. But his speech at the UN was powerful and eloquent. He criticised Putin and called out his crimes. I agreed with every word. Bravo Mr Lammy. |
Lammy phones Russian representative saying that he stands there as a black man. It's true. I'm not making this up. He really is the gift that keeps on giving, isn't he? |
rod, in 2021 I sold a few BA. and bought RR @ 1.41, best buy I ever made! |
Oh the conundrum Ribble of where to invest! Just 6 months till my retirement and still nothing. Is what I see in front of me just a 'mirage' ? Surely soon or nothing at all !! I would like to thank all at Rolls Royce for making my gains, I often see their humble employee's in the shop, but BAe have been good! |
Thanks rech and blippy. I shall hold off investing in either for now. RW |

@rech CCL I totted up the figures for net profit for 2014 to 2023. The whole thing came to a net LOSS of £11.4b. Share count is up nearly 80% since 2018 and net debt has nearly tripled. Yowsers. |
CCL has been destroying shareholder value for five years, and didn't create any during the previous five. All other metrics are bad: ROCE, ROE, debt trajectory, interest cover, and to top it off, it seems to have been issuing shares just to stay afloat. I'd suggest that the shareholder perks are a beguiling sop. |
Hmm, here's a conundrum. BA. share price currently sat at 1270, Carnival (CCL) also sitting @ 1270. Which one to choose? Other than the div CCL also offers more stockholder "perks". |
BAE Systems Australia has introduced the Autonomous Tactical Light Armour System (ATLAS) Collaborative Combat Variant (CCV), an uncrewed ground vehicle designed to support military operations and reduce risks to soldiers.
The ATLAS CCV is an 8×8 modular vehicle capable of operating autonomously in both on- and off-road environments.
It is intended to complement crewed military assets, such as infantry fighting vehicles and main battle tanks, by performing tasks that would typically expose soldiers to danger. |
The UK government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), with significant financial investment and ongoing support for the British defence industry, despite earlier concerns that the upcoming defence review could impact the programme.
In response to a written question from James Cartlidge, Conservative MP for South Suffolk, Maria Eagle, the Minister of State for Defence, confirmed that the UK is set to invest over £1.3 billion in GCAP and the associated Team Tempest R&D programme during the current financial year. |
Don't be so reticent Gecko, tell us what you really think of Lammy. |
