Global Stocks, U.S. Futures Rise; HBOS, Mizuho Financial Gain By Adria Cimino Sept. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Stocks in Europe and Asia advanced, led by banks on speculation the U.S. Federal Reserve will cut interest rates to sustain growth in the world's biggest economy. Standard & Poor's 500 Index futures rallied. HBOS Plc climbed in Europe after Goldman, Sachs & Co. added shares of Britain's biggest mortgage bank to its ``conviction buy'' list. Northern Rock Plc gained after the U.K. mortgage lender said it is in takeover discussions. Mizuho Financial Group Inc. and National Australia Bank Ltd. paced gains by financial shares in Asia, while General Motors Corp. and Alcoa Inc. led U.S. stocks higher in German trading. The Morgan Stanley Capital International World Index added 0.2 percent to 1,612.62, while S&P 500 futures advanced 0.3 percent to 1,533.8 as of 9:26 a.m. in London. Banks are the worst performing industry in the MSCI World this year and the only sub- index among 10 to drop. ``The current environment allows you to segregate the good from the bad, and after some declines there are a lot of opportunities to add to holdings,'' said Paul Mumford of Cavendish Asset Management in London, which oversees $1.4 billion. ``At some stage, people will see there is better value in the equity market.'' Asian stocks rose for a third day today, driving a regional benchmark to a two-month high, on speculation the Fed will lower rates to help the economy weather a slump in home sales and consumer confidence. nice.............. ;-))))))))))))))))) | blockbuy | |
