19/4/2009 10:50 | AXE could join the 'dash to trash' On top of that, a clutch of cyclical companies with high debt levels have been able to refinance, either by striking new deals with their lenders or raising fresh equity. These companies were heavily sold off last year on the assumption that shareholders would see their investments wiped out by debt-for-equity swaps. But with companies such as Taylor Wimpey reaching agreements with key creditors, short sellers have been forced to buy back their positions, which has helped push prices higher. The result is that the FTSE 250, which has lagged behind the FTSE 100 since April 2007 (but outperformed through the four-year bull market that started in 2003), has gained 15 per cent this year. By contrast, the FTSE 100 is down 7.7 per cent. | robson1974

19/4/2009 00:35 | The road to a green world Electric cars: Will we use them? Are they any good? And how will we power them? Special report SCOTLAND'S ROLE: By Environment Editor Rob Edwards Glasgow could become Britain's first Electric Motor City, under plans launched by government and industry. The city is playing a leading role in the UK government's drive to transform electric vehicles from the playthings of geeks to a major mode of transport in urban areas. A £1.8 million scheme to trial 30 electric vehicles in Glasgow over the next two years has been given the go-ahead, at the same time as the government announced plans to give drivers up to £5000 off new all-electric cars from 2011. The government is planning to make up to 200 electric cars available for public use in city centres across the UK, as part of an ambitious £250 million strategy to encourage a green motoring revolution. Glasgow has been selected as one of five local authorities in the UK to pilot the use of electric cars, using a local company, Allied Vehicles, with batteries provided by Axeon in Dundee. The energy company Scottish Power is also involved in developing a network of charging points for the cars. | robson1974

17/4/2009 10:28 | I agree with the potential, but also the warning...until debt issues are resolved. We need to remember that any promise of support from the government is not until 2011 and Labour might not even be in power by then....and AXE may not be here either. Unlikely but a possibility. | louisr2
17/4/2009 10:27 | It may be having a breather before another attempt at the 10p level? | robson1974
17/4/2009 10:14 | beagle, it is moving around quite fast 47m shares in issue @ 10p it had a market cap of £4.7m @ 5p it has a market cap of £2.35m @ 7.5p it has a market cap of £3.525m NB Worth including wealth warning on this for newbies They do have debt covenant issues to sort out so take my hundred bagger comments with a pinch of salt and knowledge this could as easily go to 0p as 100p IF they sort out debt covenants this could move to 20-40p quite quickly. IF Government supports them this could rocket above 40p | robson1974 |
