Jeffian,

I.C. basically says its a hard co to analyze....because of a "crazy rise" in AA CORPORATE BOND YIELDS the end Sept balance sheet shows shareholders funds at £42m.Also says the 5yr contract in US WORTH £75M so could report creditable08/09 results.Says extended its borrowing facilities to June 2010...a recovery buy.

According to citywire, Investors Chronicle put a 'buy' rating on the stock in their analysis of the recent results. What on earth did they see that I didn't?! Any IC contributors here prepared to have a look and tell us the reasons?

Results out Thursday, like the products M50 mask which I hope to hell they have now got right, enginnered fabrications-storage tanks for the US military and dairy components which spits out cash.

Dont like the debt however its unlikely this company will go down as the US military have spent 10 years co developing this new state of the art gas mask the M50.

I have received an e-mail from Avon's CEO Peter Slabbert, the principal contents of which are set out below:

From: Peter Slabbert
Date: 23/10/2008 13:51:40

I refer to your e-mail and trust that you have received our latest announcement made this morning.

I share your concern over the share price and assure you that our primary objective is to deliver a return to shareholders. I accept that improvement has come slower than expected at the time of the AGM statement. The reasons for this were explained in our interim announcement in May and subsequent interim management statement in August. I hope that this morning's statement provides some reassurance that we are, however, now making progress.

Whilst our share price partially reflects the current issues in the market, I also recognise that investors are waiting for delivery in terms of results to support the Avon story. Our strategy has been outlined in many previous statements and publications. My plan therefore in the short term is simply to re-establish credibility by focussing on operational performance to deliver these results.

Regards

Peter Slabbert

Mr Slabbert has invited me to phone him; any SPECIFIC questions anybody would like me to ask (seriously - not the effing obvious!)? I'll certainly list the points you made jarjar, and keep you informed.

Just clicked on the financials and there is a fair chunk of short term debt which they are going to have to try to re-finance in this fairly dubious climate ?

Benefits of hindsight ... good job my holding is fairly tiny in this one ...

Another big drop today
no trades except 3 small fry
there must be a reason
no posts either from the company or punters

Mike - I have the same questions and concerns
but no easy answers - why the fall indeed ?
I seem to be in the same boat as you

no messages from the company - no pointers
it was a big fall for no apparent reasons
are we now too narrowly based and focussed ?
do we have a problem with our products ?
are we getting short of cash ?
do we need to recapitalise ?
we did miss on the last dividend
should that tell us something
no trades either to explain the fall
rock bottom yet nobody buying
so how much further will it drop ?

market makers seem to know or suspect something
there is hardly a whisper on this thread either
there seems little interest - last post 2 weeks ago

Has anyone any idea why the fall of 12.63% - to 41.5p - today? I've been with this lot for ten years; they really do take the p*ss.....Are the much vaunted US contracts falling to bits, or what?

Could it just be a forced seller trying to unload a pile? The only two trades on the LSE site since the price fell are both above the mid-price (58.5 and then 58) - look like buys.
I tried to find the Significant Shareholders bit on the Avon website - doesn't seem to be there.

why the drop today ? - surprising
there is no news in the public domain
no sells - is there something we should know ?
or is it all insider information ?
have we run out of cash or out of work ?
and what are we aiming at - 25p ?

I know they say you shouldn't fall in love with a share, but is it OK to hate one? Because I'm beginning to hate this. So much promise squandered.
