15/2/2012 11:47 | BlackberryDrop, I too am of the opinion that this is a poor announcement. Over the past year the Board at AVN have been exceptionally inconsistent. A year ago we had the announcement from the board that they were not going to announce all contracts, during the year they started announcing all contracts (due to share price drop no doubt) and now they are releasing announcements with absolutely no financial details. It does make me ask the question Why? Don't get me wrong, I am all for companies announcing contract wins, but only if it is material. Quite obviously this contract (at this moment in time - as you say STM could take a larger chunk in the future) is not material and as such, announicng it, to me anyway, again smacks of desperation to somehow support the share price. Still long, still not worried gg | ![]() greengiant
15/2/2012 10:58 | 1976YOL: I don't see why you think it's panic PR. If you look at STM's website (www.stmi.com), they are a major player in providing satellite networks and kit across the world. This strikes me as a good news as it means Avanti is aligned with another industry leader alongside Hughes. Also, I'm no expert, but I'd imagine the cost for STM of installing a hub at Goonhilly to expand their business in to European is a chunky investment so wouldn't expect them to stop with just Spain. | ![]() blackberrydrop

15/2/2012 09:30 | Avanti Communications sells more capacity on HYLAS 1 satellite Avanti Communications Group (LON:AVN) said global satellite network operator and existing partner STM is buying Ka band capacity on its operating HYLAS 1 satellite to enable them to launch Enterprise services in Spain. STM will be installing the required satlink hub at Avanti's Gateway Earth Station at Goonhilly in Cornwall. The STM hub will be managed from STM's global network centre in Madrid by Global IP. HYLAS 1 launched in November 2010, and is Avanti's first Ka band services satellite. The next one, HYLAS 2, is currently on track for a June 2012 delivery date. Avanti has notified launch service provider Arianespace that it wants to launch as soon as possible after June 30. Last week, the company announced a placing to raise £73.8 million after expenses to fully fund the design, construction and launch of HYLAS 3. | ![]() someuwin

15/2/2012 07:26 | Morning all! I've just seen theses couple of posts from a happy AVN punter in Kent. Great feedback on the quality of AVNs service, the install process and the fact that latency is not an issue. Tue 15:31 Re: Avanti in Kent decomeau Sorry, 33.5 degrees west :-) It's the sky TV satellites on 28.2, but they're East. PS, vpn into my office connects fine and remote desktop connections to my PC are perfectly usable. My timesheet and some work in other applications all done, with the expected lag with mouse clicks and typing but compared to when the network completely dropped out in the evening for ADSL it's fantastic. Lets see what evening troubles or lack there off Avanti brings. More View thread 7 Respond Login to Vote up Tue 15:21 Re: Avanti in Kent decomeau I have a very usable internet connection going via 28.2 degrees west and Goonhilly earth station. So what if I have to wait less than a second when I click on the link before something starts drawing on screen. Barely any different to before. I can still watch the value fall of my shares so I think Avanti have done a good job. In providing the service, not the share price that is!!! I'm now receiving 8MB instead of the 2MB over ADSL. I'll be running both connections for the next month so I hope to do some comparisons soon. The engineer did a very good job, the focus being on quality of installation and not rattling through as many in a day. He was on site for 4hrs and the installation is very tidy. He commented that they never have to revisit sites for bad installations, water ingress, etc as it's all done right first time. They work cleverly as well, taking photos of the installation and keeping those records on file. Hence when switching previous customers over to Hylas 1, they new what types of installations and how many engineers to send to each site and made everything as cost effective as possible. | ![]() blackberrydrop

11/2/2012 09:53 | Martin - unfortunately to date, the half year on half year sales growth has been slowing. While sales have increased in value, the rate of increase is lower on a half on half basis. I've had these on the radar for a while and thinking of buying a few as can see the potential. It's just this pace of sales growth which is holding me back. If they did £5.4m of sales in the last financial year, I would have thought that all of that would recurr in the next year, so of the £5.1m they did in the prior half, then c. £2.7m would have been recurring. At least that's my understanding of it. And given that the Hylas 1 has been up since Nov 2010, what's been achieved in sales to date is not that spectacular in my opinion. I suppose it's good to hear that they have £17m for FY this year, and if they do that then yes the half on half growth rate will have picked up but they haven't reported that yet. And that's still short of what the market is expecting for FY by £10m or 37%. Hopefully Avanti can do all the forecast £27m in FY sales but I expect if they really want to get the share price going, then they'll have to beat that by a decent amount. I think I'll wait for more evidence of sales picking up. Megabear | megabear
10/2/2012 18:44 | Revenue recognised in the six months to December 2011 of GBP5.1 m (December 2010: GBP 1.2 million) shows a steady acceleration over the GBP5.5 million recognised in the 12 months to June 2011 For the year ended 30(th) June 2012, we have clear visibility on revenues of GBP17 million for the year. We are bidding on contracts or they are under negotiation which could increase revenues materially. Just to show that growth is not slowing Megabear. | martincoops
10/2/2012 12:59 | Can anyone explain to me why on a half year basis the sales growth is slowing? My reading from the numbers shows that calendar sales grew from £1.2m in H2 2010, to £4.2m in H1 2011, to £5.1m in H2 2011, but this means that the H/H growth rate has slowed from 250% in H1 2011 to 21% in H2 2011. Shouldn't the growth rate be picking up now that they've had one satellite up in the air since Nov 2010 and another scheduled to go up this year? Does anyone know how the revenue is collected on the contracts? I.e. if full year sales were £5.5m for 2011, is this all recurring? And if so can Avanti book this in H1 or does it have to be split evenly between H1 and H2? | megabear |
