29/11/2010 07:10 | The bit I like is "As a result of certain extra design activities during manufacture HYLAS 1 has higher performance than the original design provided for and is able to offer certain new services. We will analyse the precise performance characteristics of the satellite in these operating modes before commercial service commences." Should keep the price bubbly. | johnrxx99
29/11/2010 07:10 | What about this bit "As a result of certain extra design activities during manufacture HYLAS 1 has higher performance than the original design provided for and is able to offer certain new services. We will analyse the precise performance characteristics of the satellite in these operating modes before commercial service commences. " Don't remember reading anything about this in the last several months and wonder if he is about to pull off another brilliant coup??? | ib1905

29/11/2010 07:02 | Successful launch of HYLAS 1 Avanti Communications Group plc Successful launch of HYLAS 1 Avanti Communications (LSE: AVN), the broadband satellite operator, is delighted to announce the successful launch of HYLAS 1 from the Kourou Space Centre on an Ariane 5 launcher on Friday 26th November at 18.39 GMT. The Ariane 5 launch was perfect, injecting HYLAS 1 into the correct orbit precisely on schedule. HYLAS 1 separated from the Ariane 5 after 34 minutes of flight and telemetry was immediately received at the control centre. The solar arrays deployed on schedule and all systems checks showed full spacecraft functions to be working correctly. David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti Communications, commented: "I am delighted that HYLAS 1 is safely in orbit and operating as planned under our control. "HYLAS 1 is a uniquely flexible satellite and we are now delighted to be able to offer broadband to communities, businesses and governments around Europe who previously suffered from the lack of high quality communications. Anyone in the UK and within our European beams who needs broadband can now have it, regardless of their location. "Before we begin to put customer traffic onto the satellite in the New Year, we will be working to enhance the revenue generating potential of the satellite. As a result of certain extra design activities during manufacture HYLAS 1 has higher performance than the original design provided for and is able to offer certain new services. We will analyse the precise performance characteristics of the satellite in these operating modes before commercial service commences. "This is the first major step for us in creating a business which I hope will lead the World in Ka band satellite communications." | goneawol
29/11/2010 06:51 | Morning all - well back from London to 2 feet snow in back garden in Edinburgh and no gritters ggrrrr! Looking forward to a good day but market reaction to Eurozone issues may dampen spirits a bit.... | ib1905
29/11/2010 04:31 | jeffian, I must disagree with you regarding what you hope for. I don't mind at all if AVN rises spectacularly in the short term only to fall later to more pedestrian levels. Provided of course I am canny enough to get out during the over-inflated stage. Let's say I think AVN should be worth £25 by mid-2012, after HYLAS 2 is launched. If by end-2011 the share has become so popular that it has risen to £30, then, in the absence of any other changes in the interim to my expectations of the company, I might well think how fortunate I am and sell at £30. Should I then worry if the share price falls back to £20 thereafter, rather than trading at say £25 if it had had a steady rise to that price instead of spiking. The principle of investing surely is to spot those companies that are priced at less than your own view of their current "fair value", and/or your view of their future "fair value". Your hope is to buy low and sell higher, when the market has come to value your chosen company at or preferably above your own view of it's value. Sometimes the market never values a share as highly as you do, sometimes it "overvalues" it alarmingly. If you are fortunate enough to experience the latter, then don't be too greedy but cash in (- at least part of your holding). As you have suggested, these situations don't last and may result in the market undervaluing the share subsequently, once the bubble has burst. | backmarker |
