"The greater flexibility which the Notes provide will allow us to utilise our balance sheet more effectively and to respond to new opportunities."

Ouch there goes the business plan out of the window IMHO.

I am doubting now whether shareholders will ever see much of a return on their investment here. Loathed to sell out at this point but things look grim.

Rogk wrote on a different tread

OMG. I thought a coupon might be on the cards but was thinking 7% was too much to pay for that size of debt. What will the debt repayments be for 10% coupon !!!

Is that 10% of $370m = $37m/yr If so tha secures the company isnt going bust anytime soon BUT means profitability has been pushed out further.

My immediate reply to that is, how come this should result in improved cash flow then? It would suggest previous financing was on even worse terms, taken out in more straightened times a few years back! Don't know but will be interested in the company's clarification on this.

PS. Wouldn't it be better to stick to just one tread?

If that's "proving the doubters to be wrong", well, perhaps some are once again feeling a little over excited.
The results and latest downgraded forecasts show the bear case is as apparent now as it's always been.

Watching closely for news on securing further debt.

IMO

Ahh, the good old 'C3ISR' mob ehh.
Always talking about these fellers down the pub!!

I'm sure there must be some government outfit whose sole job it is, is to come up with ever more daft acronyms.
I kid you not that in the Beeb, there was actually a job title whose abbreviation was EIEIO. Good old MacDonald, he would have been proud.

Jesting apart, this does sound like the sort of news we need.
Who knows, one day I might break even.

All the best,
John

"L-3 TRL Technology and Avanti Communications to Provide Secure High-Speed Ka-Band Satellite Services

25 September, 2013

Printer-friendly versionSend by email

GLOUCESTERSHIRE, United Kingdom, September 25, 2013 – L-3 TRL Technology (L-3 TRL) announced today that it is working with Avanti Communications to provide secure Ka-Band satellite services to government and military agencies that use L-3 TRL's CATAPAN® encryption devices for direct high-speed connectivity. Coverage includes parts of Europe, the Middle East, the Caucasus region and Africa.

Ideal for high-demand government and military operations that require unlimited data transfer at superfast speeds (up to 10 Mbps), the new Ka-Band offering provides secure, cost-effective network options for users with multiple transportable and/or fixed nodes.

Numerous encrypted secure voice and data scenarios have been tested over the capability, under differing weather conditions, without any degradation in service.

Options include transportable variants utilising highly portable antennas for rapid deployment and a fixed-site variant providing a cost-effective connection. Tailored uncontended packages are available, including dedicated bandwidth and occasional use packages. Shared contended bandwidth packages are also available. This allows the services to be configured to meet a user's specific operational requirements.

"We are pleased to be working with Avanti in bringing secure satellite communications to numerous international defence and government agencies," said Adrian Cunningham, L-3 TRL vice president and head of its National Security division. "The Ka-Band airtime services offer extremely cost- effective network options with the added benefit of uncontended or contended communications, allowing users to stay connected during all types of weather."

Ka-Band is part of L-3 TRL's CATAPAN Bundled Airtime Service packages, which are designed to work in conjunction with its CATAPAN government grade network encryption devices and COTS modem hardware to provide secure mobile communications. A number of "out-of-the-box" dedicated service packages are available to ensure the highest levels of security for individual operational requirements.

For those that are interested in TA, I'm posting off Zak Mir's daily - Let's hope we can hold the 10 MDA. If we do, then it seems we have momentum for a 40% or so gain.

Avanti Communications (AVN)

It has to be said, that although on a fundamental basis Avanti Communications is not exactly been the most straightforward of companies, at least technically it can be said that one could have played the shares both on the short side and on the long side in recent months quite successfully. For instance, earlier this month we were treated to a sharp break back above the 50 day moving average currently at £1.76, and this has delivered not only a Bull flag breakout, but also a break above the 200 day moving average at £2.49. The view now is that at least while there is no end of day close back below the 10 day moving average currently at £2.27, one would expect a significant move to the upside. This could mean a target as high as the top of a July rising trend channel at £3.25 over the next 4 to 6 weeks.
