05/4/2012 09:25 | i think sg is looking for a reason to invest, he has called it right all the way down you cant argue with that, now whether it was luck or understanding that is for you to decide... all i am saying is that he offers balance in a constructive manner rather than just saying "these things are going to £1" J. | jonnyno1
05/4/2012 08:46 | Jonnyno1, Whilst I do not wish to engage in pointless chat about other posters and clog up the BB ....I have been invested in AVN for a few years and have to say that I find SG1's posts somewhat lacking in substance. I've no doubt he puts a lot of time and effort into them as you say but therein lies the rub. He only posts enough information to suggest an issue/problem for AVN which it often appears, to me at least, is found to be baseless upon investigation. I seem to remember seeing him post sporadically over the last few years always with a negative stance and have never seen him admit that perhaps he has got the wrong end of the stick.I have no issue with opposing viewpoints but with SG1 and AVN it seems more of a hobby for him to come up with reasons to not invest. | dunluce
05/4/2012 08:26 | 100michael, you are wrong about sg..if we see anything like the time and effort he puts into his posts by you i will eat my hat... i'll just leave it at that. j. | jonnyno1
05/4/2012 07:25 | always had the faith this is very well backed with directors own money ... | divinausa1
05/4/2012 00:02 | Surely nobody is gullible enough to take any notice of the tripe Superg1 manages to post If you are unsure I suggest you carry out some basic research on him Quite amusing - but certainly not to be taken seriously I suggest all completely ignore him Use the Filter | ![]() 100michael
04/4/2012 21:06 | I agree Williams is a top man. | ![]() sg31
04/4/2012 18:54 | Volvo, I've always been impressed by David Williams which was one of the reasons I was attracted to this business in the first place. Keep faith......I think most of us here have pretty much done so despite the fall in the share price ....we have one who pops in from time to time to try and sow seeds of doubt when he has time off from his daily ramping of his favourite stock. | ![]() yorgi
04/4/2012 18:45 | Keep the faith, the people that 'really know' are very confident BTW I hold over 186k of AVN in my SIPP after a chance meeting with Rutherford Scientific () and Mr Williams...........a Will be 600/700p by year end 2012 | ![]() volvo

04/4/2012 15:42 | I would like to kindly refer you to my post 8301 a few days ago which reviews the posts from EK and his 'informant' which he used to support his shorting of AVN last year. I will let you decide how these compare to the latest RNSs 12 months later. | garymott
04/4/2012 15:06 | ALL very true Sg :-) | ![]() yorgi
04/4/2012 15:02 | As I say, different technology, different costs, different products, different markets. It's a typical short traders attempt to frighten holders to sell. Plenty of room in AVN's market for other operators. It is a relatively undeveloped market it will be a few years before it becomes saturated. Plenty of time to make money before then. | ![]() sg31
04/4/2012 13:27 | An interesting read gg | ![]() greengiant
04/4/2012 12:57 | O3B's coverage map is here if you want to look for yourself. They clearly only cover tiny parts of AVNs coverage map. As I say, different technology, different costs, different products, different markets. | blackberrydrop
04/4/2012 12:56 | It's not really worthy of comment Blackberry :-) | ![]() yorgi
04/4/2012 12:39 | On o3b's own website, it clearly says they only do trunking. They cannot do broadband with a dish on your roof. Because their satellites whizz overhead, each installation needs two or three tracking dishes which are 2 metres accross, and this kit costs more than $25,000. AVN's sats are geosynchronous, so its dishes only cost $400. Look at the o3b coverage map, even with 12 satellite, they only cover tiny parts of AVN coverage map. Different technology, different costs, different products, different markets. Personally I struggle to understand why a telco would pay $25000 for an o3b dish to use satellite when big head ends already have fibre. | blackberrydrop
04/4/2012 12:33 | I wouldn't have thought having communications in the name was a such a bad thing but having the right name and image is very important so if it is a problem I would expect the BOD to address this issue. | ![]() yorgi
04/4/2012 12:20 | All that matters here is over the next few months AVN continue to win contracts and when revenue figures are released and profits coming through the share price will rise a lot quicker than it has fallen. Hylas 2 launch date getting closer and the company is ahead of target to fill Hylas 1 so all in all not worried at all and glad to have had the oppertunity to have added at this price :-) | ![]() yorgi
04/4/2012 12:16 | Agreed piadda, having 'communications' in our name does make us sound like a boring phone co. The irony of that fund managers comment is of course, that traditional phone call charges are dropping because more and more people are using VOIP calls over the internet - for which AVN will be providing the infrastructure. | ![]() someuwin
04/4/2012 12:08 | O3b seems like an excellent company with highly influential backers. Their analysis shows that there is huge scope for several players in the market. I think the technology to track their satellites must be more complicated than the technology to communicate with a geostationary satellite. In summary a strong competitor (they still have to make a profit) in a huge market. I think we are trading so low due to the perception we are a telephone company. A fund manager told me he wouldn't be investing as the cost of calls was in a sharp decline, comparing us to Vodaphone. Hopefully when the contacts start coming in after the next launch we will get a better press and a better understanding. | piadda
04/4/2012 12:03 | Yes correct Gary AVN 500 the slowest. That's the trouble with this BB comments such as this 'Why don't you read more about it yourself and then decide whether it's a problem for your kids.' The threat of O3B is a real consideration and was identified by a few on here back in November. Sorry for asking. what a great BB Perhaps one tip site has it right with there buy price of below £2, but with O3b it's anyone's guess whether AVN will survive such competition. | ![]() superg1
04/4/2012 11:55 | All orbital based systems will have greater latency than terrestial sytems due to the larger distances the signals have to travel at the speed of light. How much depends, upon other things, on the orbiting altitude of the spacecraft. From your own link:- "Round-trip data transmission time is reduced from well over 500 milliseconds to approximately 100 milliseconds seconds." Why don't you read more about it yourself and then decide whether it's a problem for your kids. Please don't again just talk about consumer broadband; the Avanti business model is far far broader than this and it is clearly not selling its capacity based on commodity pricing as has been stated many times by Avanti and posters on this thread. | garymott |
