06/4/2011 18:01 | Simon, Today (6 Apr'11 - 12:33 - 5002 of 5009) you posted:- "Meljohn, I have studiously avoided giving any opinion. But I keep on receiving advices that I am correctly informed. So, on the balance of the probabilities, AVN will go down." On 3 Apr'11 - 21:58 - 4927 of 5009 (just 3 days ago!) you posted "........ However, I stand by my belief that AVN is grossly overvalued". I think most rational people would conclude these two statments are directly contradictory. You freely admit that your bearish views come from others' opinions without you able or bothered to check the details yourself so how can you be so sure to make such a conclusion today that "....on the balance of the probablilities, AVN will go down"? The share price may go down tomorrow or next week or the week after if enough people believe you but that is not what many on this BB are concentrating on; it is the share price in a few months, later this year and even in a couple of years time based on the company's future prospects. Please let me know your view of the 'fair value' for the share price (you have been asked this before but you did not reply) as even the most bearish of independent analysts (i.e. Investec) has a price target of 488p which is higher than today's close of 449.75p. | garymott
06/4/2011 17:52 | The EOY is June? So very little will show on next interims. But the outlook statements will be very interesting. So significant price action come October / November? Not a problem - still buying little amounts each month. Have been since Nov 2009. Hope to reach target by October. | hclbristol

06/4/2011 16:47 | Simon Cawkwell I'm sorry but this time you have shown what you really are and I will refrain from saying it ! "I have studiously avoided giving any opinion." quite clearly you either don't understand what you post or you have totally lost your memory. Look back in your posts you have given your opinion several times. | yorgi
06/4/2011 16:42 | I find it tragic the an obese, drunk, compulsive gambler is trying to stifle British innovation. These are British jobs for British people. Deliberately spreading lies and false rumours is sickening. In other countries he would be beheaded for treason. Is it because he has such low self esteem that he feels the need to try destroy one of the success stories of the UK technology industry? | restassured
06/4/2011 16:31 | Shouldn't there be an announcement soon confirming that Hylas1 is providing services? Or is the 'coming shortly' RNS of 15th March all we are going to get? | meljohn
06/4/2011 13:08 | cawky time to move on from this one | geheimnis2
06/4/2011 13:06 | SC. Having once been the messenger boy of an illiterate I would have thought for a second time you would have at least checked the figures. Words shy bitten, twice and once come to mind. I side with the directors who will be much more able on the figures front. | kirkuk
06/4/2011 12:42 | "So, on the balance of the probabilities, AVN will go down" certainly has the appearance of an opinion, Simon, but I'm happy to accept that for you it is not. I assume you have studiously avoided giving an opinion on the quality of your information. Sounds sensible. Of course, you may possibly be right that AVN will fall further. There has been no sense to the fall so far so when sense will prevail is certainly a matter for speculation. But whether there is a real correlation between the quality of your sources' information and the movement of the share price is another matter. Time will tell. | meljohn
06/4/2011 12:33 | Meljohn, I have studiously avoided giving any opinion. But I keep on receiving advices that I am correctly informed. So, on the balance of the probabilities, AVN will go down. SC | simon cawkwell
06/4/2011 11:31 | When SC is sticking to what he's good at - taking a cynical look at 'massaged' balance sheets - then he is very good indeed. When he is trusting his informants he is only as good as what he is being told. And since his informants appear to be presenting a very selective case, I'm more inclined to go with those that know the full picture. But this has been an object lesson in just how vulnerable AIM shares can be to concerted shorting. The market will turn soon enough - and then SC and his followers will be looking for prey elsewhere ... | meljohn
06/4/2011 10:47 | I guess you could also compare the reseller prices like this ... Hylas 1 Consumer 800 = £49.50 for 10GB = £4.95/GB Bronze KA-SAT package = 39.90 = £35 for 8GB = £4.375/GB But remember the Ka-Sat price is for France and the Hylas price is for the UK ... we don't yet know what the Ka-Sat prices will be for the UK, they come out in May | marksnsparkle
06/4/2011 10:39 | Alunmorris ... fair point, but it was late at night and I did not do the maths :-) So in the spirit of fairness ... Hylas 1 Consumer 800 = £49.50 Bronze KA-SAT package = 39.90 = £35 + £12 (cost for exceeding download limit by 2GB) = £47.50 However it is a valid point that these are all reseller prices, i.e. like resellers buy fixed line broadband off BT and then sell at their own prices under their own brand | marksnsparkle
06/4/2011 09:35 | There are three things that Cawkwell and his band of derampers consistently fail to understand or recognise as they deliberately spread misleading information to try to drive the price down: 1) AVN doesnt set the prices the ISPs charge, it just sells them capacity and kit. The ISPs decide the price they charge so there are bound to be some that are cheaper and some that are more expensive than Eutelsat - its up to the ISPs - AVN is a wholesaler of bandwidth, not a consumer retailer. 2) The UK is only one of over 50 countries served by Avanti. 3) Consumer broadband is just one small part of AVN's business. The other areas are miltary satallite communications, cellular backhaul and enterprise networks, all of which, in my humble opinion (and with minimal research) are much bigger markets than consumer broadband. A quick look at the two websites shows that he is comparing a Eutelsat consumer product designed for use in the home with an Avanti's pro product designed for use in a Large office - these are hugely different products! It's like comparing a ford focus with an aston martin - both get you around but are aimed at a totally different target market and are differently priced! If you compare like for like, I cannot see any material price differences. I guess it's no suprise that Cawkwell posted on here last night after the price closed well up. It's also no suprise that he continues to be selective about his 'facts' and uses unrepresentative samples as that has always been the case. What is suprising is that some people still seem to listen to him! | blackberrydrop
06/4/2011 09:18 | Spot on Phoenixbird. | yorgi
06/4/2011 09:06 | All this is just 'noise' to create a bear market for this stock and shorters like SC are brilliant at fuelling peoples fear and then feeding on it. For all you doubters, stay focussed on the fact that the directors, who are in a position to know the marketplace and the position which their products will take in that market, have been buying into the company profusely in the last few weeks. These guys would have to be imbeciles to be buying into this company if they had doubts about the business model and their committment thus far reassures me. | phoenixbird
06/4/2011 08:54 | ffs cawky give it a rest no one is interested - you obviously havent a clue on this stock | geheimnis2 |
