06/4/2011 08:32 | No wonder Avanti Directors are buying. Market opportunity looks huge just in Europe. gg | greengiant
06/4/2011 08:25 | marksnsparkle, No position here but, in your package comparison, why is a 40% higher price 'slightly more expensive' yet 25% more data is a 'whopping' amount more? | alunmorris
06/4/2011 07:52 | SC last post says it all, he has no idea, warrants no more comment than that. | yorgi
06/4/2011 07:51 | SC has been "forwarded" information. No doubt by the same illiterate who forwarded the previous deramp. You didn't check that either no doubt because it was way beyond your capabilities. SC on this one you have proved to have no clothes ( no doubt not a pretty sight)so do the gentlemanly thing and leave the room. | kirkuk
06/4/2011 07:39 | EK is still short and his informant has got his price (and EK his information) once gain, all muddled up.. | tsmith2
06/4/2011 07:35 | So EK is not short or invested now then. Is this new or old news?. | cocker
06/4/2011 06:25 | The above prices are resellers prices to consumers/businesses Simon's informant, as well pointed out by marksnsparkle, has chosen a unfair price comparison for resellers which is biased to try to support his argument. Marksnsparkle's 'like-for-like' comparison is not so different in price. Also, all these resellers prices are new for new services. New products/services usually start with a high price and then are dropped once the market competition becomes clear and so I would expect the resellers prices will be very similar in the none to distant future. | garymott
06/4/2011 00:45 | Don't have a clue about the relative merits of competing systems - broad brush man, me - but if it's as uncompetitive as some say a) how did they persuade the financiers to fund it and b) why are major ISP's such as BT signing up to it? | jeffian
06/4/2011 00:27 | Simon ... I have heard it all now, you say ... "I have been forwarded the following concerning Eurosat .v. Avanti. I cannot or will not check the assertions but, if they are sound, AVN had better watch out" ... you want us to trust your judgement, but you can't be bothered to check if the information is correct :-) Anyway ... Avanti's pro service (e.g. pro 8000) is designed for business and include value added services for business e.g. port forwarding, remote email access, etc, that's why they are priced at a premium ... so a like for like comparison with the gold KA-SAT package isn't fair or correct A fair comparison would be ... Bronze KA-SAT package = 39.90 = 8MB connection and 8GB download limit vs Hylas 1 Consumer 800 = £49.50 = 8MB connection and 10GB download limit The Avanti package is slightly more expensive but that is because it gives you a whopping 2GB more of data to download and both packages offer the same connection speed | marksnsparkle
05/4/2011 22:58 | Hello Simon, You are a tease! I've bought some of these. When they did the Placing and re-financing to provide the funds for Hylas-2, did nobody do the dd on this? Tsk! Tsk! What do these investment bankers do to earn their bonuses? And why are service providers like BT contracting to take capacity? Beats me. I haven't got a clue how the thing works, but if what you say is true it strikes me that the financiers are going to get burned as much as investors and a few questions will be asked of those paid squillions to check out these things. If, on the other hand, you've alighted on another balance sheet rich in goodwill and poor in real assets and earnings, fair enough, but that can only be countermanded by earnings and cash inflow, so let's see what happens. Interesting that the Directors have tried to 'outgun' you. I don't suppose they're all inherently wealthy, so they're either desperate or convinced! Regards, Ian | jeffian
05/4/2011 20:23 | marksnsparkle, I suspected you may not yet be invested but I thought you might have 'dipped your toes' recently at these prices in comparison to a couple of months ago when you were obviously following AVN closely at much higher prices! You are cautious, or thorough, or both! | garymott
05/4/2011 19:49 | French prices for Eutelsat Ka-Sat ... | marksnsparkle
05/4/2011 18:42 | greengiant ... I knew that I was just comparing Avanti to Eutelsat current offering | marksnsparkle
05/4/2011 18:37 | marksnsparkle, The Tooway is the current package offered by Tooway, not off KA-SAT Know that Eutelsat have released prices in France, got my bundle through today. gg | greengiant
05/4/2011 18:36 | GaryMott ... no problem, glad to be of help ... i find that talking out allowed (i.e. posting) helps to get things straight in my mind I am not invested yet, would like to get confirmation of Eutelsat KA Sat packages and prices in May before buying into Avanti ... but if news breaks before then I guess it is possible that I may miss the boat I think the really big news this year will be when Avanti announce the debt financing for Hylas 3 ... they have said the debt financing will be secured on the back of contracts, I'm guessing these contacts will need to be military or government if they are to act as security on a debt? "In order to repeat this success, we decided to seek pre sales contracts from customers on the HYLAS 3 satellite, which can then be used to finance the satellite in the debt market, protecting shareholders interest. Such financings are time consuming and complex, but well suited to a business like Avanti which has very long term assets and aspirations. I am pleased to report that we are in advanced negotiations on several significant pre-sales contracts which should enable us access efficient capital and we hope to update the market soon." | marksnsparkle
05/4/2011 18:09 | marksnsparkle, Thanks for your many interesting and useful posts over the last few months; it is appreciated. Are you invested in AVN, and long? | garymott
05/4/2011 17:35 | I see are currently selling Eutelsat Tooway and Avanti Hylas 1 see below for prices ... Eutelsat Tooway ... Avanti Hylas 1 ... | marksnsparkle
05/4/2011 16:43 | On the face of it Eutelsat faster connection speed looks more attractive to the consumer, but on closer inspection its probably a false economy, i.e. on the one hand they are giving you a connection speed that is fast enough to view video but on the other hand they are giving you a download limit that won't allow you to watch much video :-( Avanti seem to be scaling the connection speed with the download limit, i.e the bigger the connection speed the more data you can download ... which sounds sensible | marksnsparkle
05/4/2011 16:39 | Acefromspace - 5 Apr'11 - 13:17 - 4963 of 4970 In the past I have never seen directors of a company buy shares when they think the company cannot deliver... -------- Unfortunately they may think they will go up when they buy, but that doesn't guarantee they will. By an irony one such was ACE ! Lord Young (I think it was) bought a bundle of these and they did go up for a couple of weeks. but subsequently they dropped rather badly. | backmarker
05/4/2011 15:35 | The factors to also bear in mind is one is only going to sign up for satellite (other than company back up)where no other service is available and the demand is still greater than supply. Some will want speed and some will want quantity of date but I'm sure there will be more than enough business for both and more. | yorgi
05/4/2011 15:25 | Was just looking at Avanti pricing for Hylas 1 and Eutelsat rumoured pricing for KA-SAT It looks like each company is adopting a different pricing strategy i.e. Avanti are being very generous with the amount of data you can download while Eutelsat are giving you a faster connection speed Eutelsat will be announcing its official KA-SAT prices in May Avanti ... Eutelsat ... | marksnsparkle |
