24/11/2010 18:09 | Major Ka-band, VSAT Investments Ride on Upcoming Ariane 5 Launch November 25, 2010 | Satellite Today Insider | Jeffrey Hill AAA Text SizeEmail Print Archives Copyright Twitter [Satellite TODAY Insider 11-25-10] Arianespace's upcoming Ariane 5 ECA launch, set for Nov. 26, will carry two crucial satellites for operators Intelsat and Avanti Communications as they look to strengthen military, commercial broadband and enterprise VSAT coverage stretching from Europe to the... | ![]() share_shark
24/11/2010 17:07 | I would consider a rise of 80p on a successful launch to be pathetic. You mean the share price would just return to what it has been over the last few days? With the biggest operational risk over and cautious instis. waiting to buy safely in? Garbage! The real reason for failing to hold over the launch comes down to either a lack of balls or a lack of faith in post launch prospects. If the Co. had thought like that, then the whole project would never have 'got off the ground.' That's the spirit Malcolmmm! | ![]() cestnous

24/11/2010 16:23 | Satellite Technology Feature Article November 24, 2010 Two Telecom Satellites Scheduled for Launch on Friday By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor Two telecommunications satellites are scheduled for launch from Europe's Spaceport on Friday. The European Space Agency (ESA) says that Ariane 5 ECA flight V198, will carry telecommunications satellites: Intelsat (News - Alert) 17 and Hylas-1. According to the ESA, Hylas-1, the first "Highly Adaptable Satellite," will provide broadband Internet access to consumers and businesses in Europe, according to space officials. It will also support more conventional telecommunications services. The space agency says that Hylas-1 is the first satellite mission developed through a public–private partnership between the ESA and a commercial satellite operator. The satellite will be operated by the owner, Avanti Communications of England. The Hylas-1 mission will help meet the growing consumer and business demand for broadband services in Europe. The ESA's communications payload "will deliver broadband services to hundreds of thousands of European customers on a flexible basis, shifting bandwidth between regions in line with demand," the ESA said. Hylas will be followed in two or three years by two other satellites developed in partnerships with satcom operators: Alphasat, developed with Inmarsat (News - Alert) with Astrium as prime contractor, and HAG-1, developed with Hispasat with OHB as prime contractor. Friday's launch marks the fifth of six Ariane 5 launches planned for 2010. Europe's Spaceport is located in French Guiana, an overseas region of France, located in South America. In other satellite-related news, TMCnet recently reported that European satellite maker Thales (News - Alert) Alenia Space has gotten approval from the ESA to build a system of third-generation weather satellites. The company said it has signed a contract worth $1.77 billion with Germany's OHB-System to build the Meteosat Third Generation system. The MTG is a six-satellite system for both climate and meteorological applications. It has four imaging satellites carrying imaging and lightning detection, and two other sounding satellites providing infrared and ultraviolet capabilities. | ![]() share_shark
24/11/2010 16:22 | wendsworth - yes, it could well rise 80p on successful launch. Enjoy your short but understand that a successful launch will hurt your pocket. S | ![]() smarm

24/11/2010 16:14 | In the event that the launch or deployment is not successful, what might Avanti have lined up as comforting press releases, to cushion the blow? It is not their job to prop up the share price of course. Their job is to get on with business to the best of their ability and allow the share price to reflect that. But they won't want a negative outcome to totally trash shareholder enthusiasm - particular institutions who might need to be called upon in the future if/when extra funding is required. So I imagine they do have some standby press releases ready to be rolled out for every launch/deployment outcome, including a summary of positive declarations for use in negative scenarios. | m.t.glass
24/11/2010 15:53 | MT. Point taken, and we all accept that space launches are risky. This is not a horse race where we need one particular horse to win outright. Our horse just has to finish the race i.e. launch successfully. Our particular horse has now completed the last 39 races and finished every time, which must give comfort. What would we all be feeling if there had been 197 successes without a failure, but something had gone wrong with the last one? | ![]() 2vdm
24/11/2010 15:44 | M.T. corect - see full list of Arianne launches here... | ![]() someuwin
24/11/2010 15:39 | "there is 1) a 100% record of successful launches so far (all 39 of them).." 2vdm - The record is not 100% successes. I think you've misread the stats. The number of Ariane launches is way bigger than 39 (198 so far). That 39 number merely refers to the recent run of successes since the last failure. | m.t.glass
24/11/2010 15:32 | Agreed, 2vdm. There will be those who are risk averse and who have been and will be taking profits prior to the launch. So there are going to be some sellers, but not a preponderence of buyers over the last week or so because pretty much everyone who wants to be aboard for the launch will already be in by now. Could get a few jumpng on board tomorrow or Friday, though ... | meljohn
24/11/2010 15:27 | Perhaps the mms are walking it down to fill orders before Friday and shaking out the nervous? Can't blame them if they are, because at the end of the day, there is a simple choice here. If you think that the launch will be successful and the satellite will work, you will want in (if you are not already in). In support of this argument there is 1) a 100% record of successful launches so far (all 39 of them) and 2) the project is insured, so if it fails shareholders will not lose 100% of their investment, (although it won't be good)and 3) The upside of course is potentially a 50-60% rise in the share price very quickly and probably at least another 30% upside within 6 months. If you don't think it's going to work then it's time to get out, unless you have the funds and courage to bet on a rise between now and Friday. | ![]() 2vdm
