Not sure you can draw comparisons, Inmarsat already had satellites when they floated in 2005.

Kourou, – The Highly Adaptable Satellite (HYLAS 1), which was designed and built by Astrium for the satellite broadband operator Avanti Communications, has now arrived at the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana, ahead of its planned launch aboard an Ariane 5 in late November.


HYLAS 1 will bring high-speed broadband services to remote rural areas across Europe, using its 'highly adaptable' payload, developed by Astrium, primarily at its UK sites in Portsmouth and Stevenage. The payload operating in Ku and Ka bands is designed to allocate varying amounts of power and bandwidth to the different regions within its footprint, reacting to the highs and lows of traffic demand.


The satellite was flown to French Guiana aboard an Antonov An-124 cargo plane from Bangalore, India, where HYLAS 1's satellite platform and integration was undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organisation. Over the coming weeks the satellite will be readied for launch and mated with the Ariane 5 launch vehicle.


The UK Space Agency and Technology Strategy Board have provided support for the development of HYLAS 1 through the UK subscription to the European Space Agency ARTES programme.

Your right there Ib1905.....One of the things that attracted me to AVN was David Williams and his commitement to the company and is goal.

As Someuwin said earlier today it is not the prelaunch price that is of great concern but after and it will be well ahead of here

This is more what I expected pre-launch - just looked back at 14/15 Oct trades - MMs at it big time - I wont be surprised if we see a lot more of this over the next 3 weeks - but you can't hold a good company down for long.

WSJ: Massey Energy Mulls Strategic Options, Including Sale (RTTNews) - Tuesday, broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications Group Plc (AVN.L: News ) said it inked contracts with two new partners for the sale of broadband services to be delivered from HYLAS 1, Europe's first Ka Band satellite.

InTouch Systems and DSL Telecom are established UK IT and Communications companies serving regional markets in which rural connectivity for homes and businesses plays an increasingly important part.

David Williams, Avanti chief executive, commented, "I am pleased see that, following the confirmation of our November 25th launch date, sales momentum is increasing."

AVN.L is currently trading at 600 pence, up 0.50 pence or 0.08%, on a volume of 264K shares.
