Well the interims are due in just over a week on 29th July so we'll know soon enough if there's anything specific behind taking that position. If AZN announce the first dividend increase in a long time that won't look too clever, but I guess the chances of that are slim.

Huge 200m share short position opened yesterday. Corresponds with unusually high LSE trade volume of 60m shares.

============ To Mr Boris Johnson and Mr Sajid Javid ==============

Gentlemen

It is quite obvious you are both singing from the same hymn sheet regarding coming out of restrictions on July 19th regardless

BUT

This new Delta variant has muddied the vaccination waters and buywell would suggest --- was not allowed for or even thought of when 'freedom day' was conjured up

Delta case numbers are rising and have been rising fact over the last few weeks since it was imported from India by plane over several weeks and hundreds of plane loads which can only be now described as:

Very silly ---- and the Delta variant was not even a UK VOC when it started to rampage through India which was just plain stupid

SO

We are where we are and the current mantra you guys are pushing is that :

' We must learn to live with Covid-19 ' ---- whatever that means

To buywell it means Covid-19 is with the UK for good ie no cure is likely plus the government and you two in particular do not know how to deal with the pandemic

-------------- Let us think about how this virus keeps on spreading -------------------------

The WHO and the CDC both got this one wrong --- but it does not say much for SAGE and your advisors
They and you have made multiple balls ups and continue to do so

Please read this thread as buywell got it right early doors re most things SARS -CoV-2 related and particularly to the aerosol spread of this disease and what is needed to help people live with it as best they can

A) Clean virus free air to breathe indoors for starters

This is an obvious action that has been needed for the last year BUT has not been adressed by the government

In practice it means disinfecting the air by means of Far-UVC and UVC technology --- please read up on this very much needed but costly requirement to keep children safe in schoold (unvaccinated) and older people as safe as possible in care home PLUS those in hospitals and other indoor public settings

B) Adopting policies that get our children vaccinated FAST as these variants mutate further and gain escape mutations which is currently the case with Delta Plus and Lambada strains

Our children are our future

They have been put in harms way ( unvaccinated ) whilst other countries vaccinate theirs --- again stupid

buywell has noted that there is a lot of one upmanship taking place between France Germany and England regards who has best protected their populations

Billions have been squandered in the process

Poor PPE , poor Track and Trace and poor Tests to name but three ---- the goodwill of the NHS and the nurses and doctors has been lost

long COVID cases are at 2M and we have no plans in place to cope with this growing problem

NHS waiting lists which were 5M are now about to balloon out by another 7M as nearly that many people have not sought help for over 18 months but have soldiered on at home

So 12M now needing NHS treatment and around 1M needing operations

What is the plan to do this safely whilst this pandemic continues ??

regards

Drug breakthroughs to drive AstraZeneca, says Berenberg

Breast cancer drug Enhertu is expected to provide further upside in AstraZeneca (AZN) shares, says broker Berenberg.

Analyst Luisa Hector retained her ‘buy’ recommendation and £95 target price on the shares, which closed up 2%, or 167p, at £86.66 on Monday.

Hector said the share price had ‘largely recovered from its winter woes when the company’s Covid-19 vaccine and the proposed Alexion acquisition led to downward pressure’.

She is expecting AstraZeneca to continue delivering returns on its research and development programme, in particular the investment in Enhertu, a medicine used to treat breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be removed by surgery.

‘Positive data readouts in the second half from pipeline assets such as Enhertu should drive further upside in the AstraZeneca share price as probabilities of success increase and sales are subject to upward revisions,’ she said.

ASTRAZENECA, MSD PROSTATE CANCER DRUG GETS CHINA GREEN LIGHT

(Sharecast News) - AstraZeneca and MSD's Lynparza prostate cancer drug has been granted conditional approval in China after a successful phase three trial, the companies said on Thursday.

The approval by China's National Medical Products Administration was based on a subgroup analysis of the trial, which showed that Lynparza demonstrated a "substantial improvement" patients with germline or somatic BRCA-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Continued approval is contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in a planned bridging trial with Chinese patients, they added.

In China, prostate cancer is the sixth most prevalent cancer in men, with approximately 115,000 new patients diagnosed each year and about 7% have germline BRCA mutations.

Prostate cancer patients with these mutations are more likely to have poorer outcomes than those without the mutations. Around 70% of prostate cancer patients in China have advanced disease at the time of diagnosis, and for those with mCRPC, the median survival is less than two years, the companies added.

Just 10 seconds or less near an infected person means you breathe in the virus

In Queensland Australia the Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said while 15 minutes of close contact with an infectious person was deemed concerning at the start of the pandemic it was now a mere five to 10 seconds.

" There seems to be evidence the Delta variant is more prone to aerosol transmission than some of the other variants "

Explaining the term 'fleeting contact', something that has quickly become household terminology at daily Covid-19 press conferences, Professor Mullins said people were contracting the virus by simply walking through someone's exhaled breath.

We need to kill it in the air where it spreads from infected individuals to others via aerosol in their breath in indoors settings and public transport

The use of UVC and Far-UVC LED's in light units and Air Con/HVAC systems to KILL these mutations within seconds --- is our only chance of any sort of normal life

It is to be hoped that politicians realize this and spend the money to get the job done

========= A New Variant to follow Delta means wave number 5 in the fall ========

The Delta variant is now in the process of replacing the UK variant as the Global dominant strain in this present wave of cases of Covid-19

New Waves are now coming at a rate of 1 every 4 months

Whilst vaccines have to date proved effective at minimizing hospital admissions , people can still acquire a milder case of Covid-19

Unfortunately studies are now emerging that show brain damage is occurring to such people ie asymptomatic cases --- as well as hospitalized cases

The data shows circa 25% of people that contract Covid-19 may have suffered brain damage to various degrees --- dementia being cited as a long COVID problem in this regard

-------------------------------------------------

A new variant presently referred to as Delta Plus has just started to spread from India to various countries including the UK and USA

This variant looks set to follow on circa 5 months from now to become the next global dominant strain of this ever changing virus

Unfortunately a mutation it contains looks like it will give it enhanced vaccine escape potential in addition to enhanced transmissibility --- it is almost like the virus is learning how to change to survive what we are doing to prevent it doing so.
