Yes - any negativity is pounced upon. However I'm liking the improved Primark traction in the US - ok it's from a low level but it could have massive potential. Suet |
Guess it is not positive enough update in a critical market. Eyes go straight to the word "weather" and "fall in sugar price". But the bottom line appears to be in line. So maybe an opportunity? |
Blow out all the stop losses, pick up some shares on the cheap and let it drift back up later today ? |
I thought it was a reasonable update. Why such a fall then... |
Well, the trading update is pretty reasonable and as previously predicted, and with strong growth over in the US. Given the bad weather and riots I'll take that :-) |
DB clueless on this one. |
DB probably buying for all their customers!!! Suet |
Can't believe I missed the chance to add here when it was 4% down this morning..what a turnaround. Now fear it's too late..... |
Starmer this morning and the £22bn black hole - the budget is going to be painful. Those with the broadest shoulders should bear the heavier burden. In addition he will ensure the biggest levelling up of worker rights in a generation. Time to batten down the hatches it would appear - middle England looks like it's going to get hammered. Suet |
Another one today..
Royal Bank of Canada cuts Associated British Foods price target to 2,750 (2,900) pence - 'outperform' |
$hit stirrers the lot of them. |
DB analyst dreadful A fortnight ago, when at 120p, downgraded JD Sports to sell, PT 110p. Currently up 20pc to 145 |
Thanks for posting. I wondered why. |
A bit of a bashing this morning. Shop price deflation and a downgrade from DB - hold to sell 2290 to 2190. Hey ho. Suet |
Time to sell off Primark for a very high price whilst it is still a very attractive proposition, and distribute the proceeds to the shareholders :-) |
Tried Blue Dragon wok ready noodles last night. I think they're owned by ABF - very good indeed.

The Daily Telegraph: Chinese fast fashion giant Shein may sell shares directly to the British public as part of a £50bn stock market flotation in London, it has emerged. |
Jefferies cuts AB Foods price target to 2,500 (2,600) pence - 'hold' |
Fashion retailer Primark launched its first advertising campaign in the U.S. last week. The Ireland-based retailer first entered the U.S. in 2015 and operates 25 stores across the nation. The campaign features two 30-second ads that will be broadcast over TV, streaming, digital, and other media channels. |
Retail sales volumes are estimated to have climbed 0.5% monthly in July after a decline of 0.9% in June from May.
The June estimate was upwardly revised from a previously reported 1.2% fall. On-year, retail sales growth was 1.4% in July, as the ONS noted that comparably poor weather hurt sales in July 2023.

A new campaign backed by television personality Mary Portas has launched an online petition calling on Labour to block fast fashion retailer Shein from listing its shares in London.
China-founded Shein, known for its low-cost tops and dresses, confidentially filed papers with the Financial Conduct Authority early last month, kicking off the process for a potential London listing later in the year.
The move is controversial amid calls for scrutiny of Shein’s labour practices, supply chain and use of an import tax exemption.

Chris Beauchamp, chief market analyst at online trading platform IG, says:
Burberry’s results today were dire, and the shares have reacted with a 16% drop to 14-year lows. But the read across has caught two very different sectors, retailers and mining.
It’s not often the two are moved by the same story. The former have been hit by worries that Burberry’s problems are not an isolated case, and that UK consumer spending is on a downward trajectory. Meanwhile, the latter are down on China worries, amplified by the poor GDP figures that spell trouble for demand for raw materials and luxury fashion alike. |
