CLOTHING RETAILER ASOS IS IN DEEP TROUBLE & THE FAILED SHARE RAMPERS KNOW IT !! ===============================================================================
The growing popularity of online clothing retailers SHEIN and TEMU is fuelling a cargo flight boom across the UK and mainland Europe.
Unprecedented numbers of clothing deliveries that once arrived by sea are now arriving by air, and this surge is being led by the Chinese fast fashion sector.
SHEIN and TEMU are rapidly changing the face of online shopping and the air cargo industry with it.
Rather than dispatching orders to local distribution centres, SHEIN and TEMU deploy an Amazon style business model - sourcing clothes direct from the manufacturers and then send them out by air direct straight to customers home addresses.
The lynchpin of this system is the conveyor belt of aircraft used to maintain the never-ending flow from Chinese production lines to millions of buyers in Europe and North America.
Browsing through the online offerings from SHEIN, the world’s largest fashion retailer, has become a way of life for most under-30s.
A survey of 1,000 Britons by marketing platform Omnisend suggests that amongst Generation Z 44% make at least one purchase every month from SHEIN with TEMU close behind on 41%.
FedEx, the world’s largest air cargo carrier, estimates that UK parcel shipments will total 1.29 Billion over the October-December period, the most in Europe and up a staggering 11% from a year ago.
This is yet another nail in the coffin for ASOS. |

liemanjaro12 May '06 - 09:43 - 1 of 35847 0 0 0 Research Alert Tuesday 14 March 2006 Seymour Pierce Research 2 ASOS 1,3,5 General Retailers BUY 98.75p LSE ASC.L Distribution partner • ASOS has announced the appointment of Unipart Logistics as its distribution partner, taking over the management of the ASOS DC in Hemel Hempstead. • Unipart is one of Europe’s leading providers of outsourced logistics and distribution services, specialising in managing complete supply chains. • Under the agreement, Unipart will take over the picking, packing, carriage, and management of all goods in and out of the warehouse facility. This frees up the ASOS management team to concentrate on the product, customer care and overall proposition of the business. • Consequently, due to the agreement, supply chain director Greg Conway has decided to resign from the company. This is unfortunate for Greg, as he was bringing in some key supply chain management skills and initiatives, although there is no way he can compete with the service levels ASOS will receive by taking on a specialist group to manage its back office. • We are making no changes to our estimates on the back of this announcement, deciding to wait for the preliminary results before we assess the financial impact of this contract. In addition, this will allow us to factor in the full scope of recovery in sales following the closure of the distribution centre just before Christmas (Buncefield fuel depot explosion). • However, we do regard the signing of a distribution partner as positive news, with the company bringing in a professional firm to run the complex back office, leaving ASOS’s management to concentrate on the performance of the front office. • Despite the stock trading on 35.3x for this year and 34x next year, with significant top line growth coming through and the business developing a market leading position on the web, we believe that the share price still offers good value. We maintain our recommendation of BUY. |
