"Board has maintained the interim dividend at 7.15p per share (2019: 7.15p per share). This will be paid on 3 February 2021 to shareholders on the register on 15 January 2021."

So all the money spent on share buybacks has achieved zero increase in dividend for the remaining shares....

Good day bmel

"Jobs growth slowed a lot in the last data and that increases the pressure on US lawmakers to get an bi-partisan agreement around the next slab of economic support funds. A huge number of people 'fall off' benefit at the end of the year"
================================================================================

Yes I presume an agreement will be reached, probably a question of how awkward the Senate is assuming that the Republicans continue to have a majority.

Printing money does not appear to be a problem, arguably it's a plus as it results in a lower $ which is ok for exports but not so good for imports.

Inflation is lying low so no problem......yet.

You are right about the interest rates. Even the Marcus (Goldman) account has had about 4 rate cuts over he last 12 months.

I think consideration of the USA is critical here. Putting aside the current messing around with the transfer of presidential power - it will happen.

Jobs growth slowed a lot in the last data and that increases the pressure on US lawmakers to get an bi-partisan agreement around the next slab of economic support funds. A huge number of people 'fall off' benefit at the end of the year

I think a lot of that will be allocated in 'job ready' activities that can be fast tracked. That will include a lot of construction work, particularly around the massive backlog maintenance programmes work across the USA on roads, bridges, railways etc. Loads of this stuff is literally falling apart.

Good quality plant hire businesses should pick up a lot of income as a result of that.

The share price hits 3300 and not a squeak on this thread! Or are you thinking it's a false break?

BTW - I know I'm posting to myself on here but I do find that I'm in full agreement with the posts....most of the time.

The price action for 18 days has been a 3100-3200 range. It 's starting to look like a rectangle top which usually resolves in a break up but beware of false b/outs.

The share price has dropped below 3150 but is just about clinging onto the zone. I would like to see a test of 3100 to see if large volume comes into support it as it did on the 19th.

My records show that the share price has extended beyond the usual interval between 200-300 point drops. Yes I know the past is not a guarantee of the future but it is a good guide especially when the pattern has repeated several times.

During the time I have been typing the share price has dropped away from the support zone so another test of 3100 appears probable.

Good afternoon bracke all so very true...and national debt running close on £4 bill with interest rates next to zero, yes where is the reality :-/

Indeed.

If you had been in a coma for a year and awoke to the markets you would think that major economies were in very good shape and all was in good order.

I look at the FTSE following Mr Sunak's presentation. Then I look at the level of borrowing, unemployment levels and what is to come and I am unable to reconcile the two. At what point does reality arrive?

AH YES! Mean, Median, Mode

Skewing outliers, very devious.

Thanks fenners.

I note you have been busy of late posting on another thread. It's an unending story that never gets anywhere but keeps s/holders in suspense with a 'carrot' always just beyond reach.

good day bracke

The average may be higher than than yesterday's volume - but looking at the chart it was higher than the mode (or where the mode would be if there was one)

Your mean is skewed by some outliers, hence decent volume.....

The US markets are in 'charge up' mode with all the news appearing to be good. Trump out, Biden in, vaccines becoming available, Santa Rally. What more could bulls want.

The share price appears to be establishing a support zone at 3150. It did break through when it attempted to fill the gap at 3092, was 6 short but considered it was close enough and moved back up.

Resistance is at 3270.

Support is at 3150 then 3100.

"Decent volume here today though"
================================

The volume was 1.028 million.

Daily average volume is 1.176 million.

So it was below average. Are you seeing something I am not?
