The 2nd quarter results are on 06 December.

That's a good entry point clarky, certainly a lot better then my first.

Depends what you are targeting. First support is 1400. It dropped to that level to-day and was supported. If it breaks below 1400 the first daily fib is at 1387 and the next is at 1356.

If you are going for riches beyond avarice the next fib (50%) and Median Line is at 1332.

The returns on UK plant hire have to be worse than USA, so I would concentrate on the states , just let Hewden die and approach any customers direct

I hear Hewden went into administration yesterday but nothing online yet. At one time Hewden were by far the biggest UK hirer but they lost their way in recent years.I could imagine Ashtead would want to cherry pick their assets or maybe depots. Used equipment overseas will be in demand due to weakness of the pound. Another good opportunity for AHT and one less UK competitor. Across the pond, United Rentals had a big jump yesterday too.

Yes I also consider it will retrace as a result of profit taking and have added.

Yesterday was an All Time Closing High at 1385 and to-day it made an All Time Intraday High at 1434.

It has reached the Upper Parallel of the Daily Pitcfork using the October high and November low. That does not mean it can't rise higher but it does increase the chance of a retrace.

Hmm closed out yesterday far too early. This surely is going to get some profit taking in due course. I certainly wouldn't be closing any shorts just yet Bracke. In fact I would be looking to increase that bet very soon (stick one on URI at the same point) one of the two will turn the corner and drag the other with it.
Genuine long term holder of both BTW but it cant hurt to play both sides from time to time ;)

I think that most of us assumed that the deck was stacked some-how, but in my case, somewhat naively, I had assumed that analysts had just one imperative, to assess a companies prospects, and to disseminate their views uniformly, honestly and without fear or favour...

Clearly in this case I was wrong!

Yes I noticed it yesterday but what type of gap? Holders will hope it is a breakaway certainly the volume supports that. If it is a breakaway it should continue moving up, it doesn't then the probability is that it is a common gap and will fill in the short to medium term.

A good article but are we surprised; I doubt it. I suspect such is occurring on a regular basis but others are better at doing it and avoiding detection.

I remember it well!! It was one major holder ( I think it was Aegon who are now known as Kames Capital) who sold either 24 or 27 million shares in one hit at a price considerably below the share price The reason they gave was that the share price had risen well and they wanted to take their profit and then as you post a couple of weeks later the rights issue was announced and the price fell again. Was there an enquiry. No!

Interesting article Ian, I guess we already figured this could happen.
Also begs the question what really is insider trading?

If you go back 10 years here AHT shares were flying then some big players in the market dumped them ( I can't remember which institutions) weeks later a rights issue and AHT set to buy Nations Rent, share price crashes and we all assumed that the insti's had been tapped up for their support for the rights.
Did that mean that with advance warning they sold?

In the meantime if you have 5 minutes to spare, there is a fascinating insight into the workings of a Deutsche Bank analyst, I am surprised to find that what they think and what they say are not always the same thing!

It was only a week ago: Deutsche Bank Sell 710.Today from sharecast an article about today's rise at AHT and CRH:"In a European equity strategy note on Wednesday, Deutsche Bank highlighted both companies as potentially benefitting from higher infrastructure spending in the US. It noted that 84% of Ashtead's revenues are generated in the US, while CRH generates 53% of it sales from across the pond."If they were any sharper they would be dangerous!......complete muppets!.DD
