26/9/2016 17:04 | Uppompeii Lol! Many thanks for your comments on bare trusts. In conclusion, each of the grandchildren are also candidate beneficiaries of a small family discretionary trust, so hopefully this will encourage them to show a bit of financial prudence if they wish to benefit! As for brackes misspent youth, at least he is now making amends by steering a lot of us through the turbulence of the stock market. Penance indeed! | ianwwwhite
26/9/2016 16:13 | Ian, no that covers it really but the downside is really lack of control and the full access at 18. I was always concerned when asked to write something in a bare trust that if a kid grew into a tearaway, like bracke clearly was in his youth, they may just blow the lot on fast cars, women and drink and subsequently rely on charts to make amends. Retaining control can avoid this and can delay access until they are more mature. Still it quite likely won't come to that in your case and any trust is better than none. | uppompeii
26/9/2016 14:48 | No problem ian uppompeii doesn't get out much so a 'conversation' will be of benefit to him. | bracke
26/9/2016 12:50 | Ps your grandson sounds much like bracke albeit with good returns! ? | uppompeii
26/9/2016 12:49 | Ian, that's excellent and a good decision regarding the trust. Did you consider a flexible one, bare trusts are pretty difficult beasts in the wrong situation? | uppompeii
26/9/2016 11:05 | They take it up, they take it down. 1300 or 1100 place your bets! Good day deadcat As you can see from the chart below Standard Life has dropped out of the range and is headed for the Median Line (red middle). I suspect it will want to test the previous swing low at the 38.2% fib. STANDARD LIFE 4 HOURS | bracke
26/9/2016 08:52 | Same here. Pretty much all of mine is in funds too, maybe I'm more sensible now...or retirement seems a lot closer! | uppompeii
26/9/2016 08:39 | Uppompeii Can but agree, and I would add to your list fundamentals, guru's TA, gut feeling and patience, measured in years, not days in my case... However I now have only a few shareholdings, I find mutual funds equally rewarding and less stressful! (Hiss, boo I hear the cries!) | ianwwwhite
23/9/2016 23:51 | It's an established fact that the gut is an autonomous system in its own right and takes action on its own independent but in communication with the brain. Many auto immune diseases like ms could be strongly linked to inflammation in the gut. It's an interesting area of research.I pay a lot of attention to gut feeling.Don't always get it right sadly, for that we need gurus. | uppompeii
23/9/2016 20:48 | mayers Thanks for this explanation, most interesting | ianwwwhite
23/9/2016 19:59 | ianwwwhyte 52625 The first nervous system is the conventional nervous system ie the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system. It has been suggested that the innervation of the gut represents a rather independent system regulating the activity of this organ. It is mentioned as offering some possible basis for this visceral feeling. | mayers
23/9/2016 19:24 | 'There is one thing you can be certain of. When the upward pressure ceases and the drop commences it will be very unpleasant.' Thanks for that Bracke, good start to the weekend after AHT rising! Any more thoughts on Standard Life as it seems to be stuck in a small range. | deadcatbounce
23/9/2016 15:08 | Bracke Thanks as always for your views, much appreciated. | ianwwwhite
23/9/2016 14:37 | ian Ah well I tried but you are determined to have your 'pound of flesh'. As to the market.....The 'experts' have been talking about a correction for months but it does not arrive. At the beginning of the year the FED talked about four interest rate increases this year; so far none. Each time they meet to discuss the possibility they find a reason/s not to increase and so it goes on. Even when they do increase it will be minimal and the increases are likely to be very, very gradual. We now operate in an environment where borrowers charge lenders to loan them money!!! A complete reversal of the norm. Because of low/negative interest rates savers/investors are pushed towards shares in an attempt to find a reasonable rate of interest. Barring a Black Swan the charts suggest that the DOW and S&P will make new all time highs. There is one thing you can be certain of. When the upward pressure ceases and the drop commences it will be very unpleasant. | bracke
23/9/2016 14:10 | Hi bracke, Alas no, at 1128 I feel the balance of risk/reward is still not right for me, sub 1000 and I'm definitely interested, provided that the fundamentals of the company have not deteriorated in the interim. In the meantime I can't help feeling that the market is overdue a correction in the next few months, what do your charts say? I . | ianwwwhite
23/9/2016 13:45 | Good day ian "and simply wishes to add on any significant weakness. Who wouldn't?" ==================== That would depend on the reason for weakness but your point is taken. As you will have read LAIRD is less avaricious than yourself. Could you see your way clear to modifying your buying intentions and making an interim purchase at 1128? | bracke
23/9/2016 13:31 | Bracke Lol! It is worth mentioning that the aforementioned poster still retains a core holding, and simply wishes to add on any significant weakness. Who wouldn't? | ianwwwhite
23/9/2016 11:41 | Buying @ 900 good selling @ 900 bad. Cheers | 2flatpack
23/9/2016 11:14 | It closed at 1128 on 20 July and gaped up from there. The nearest it got to filling the gap was 1141 on 04 August. So you'r thinking it will drop back to 1128, could be worse. There is another poster, who shall remain nameless, who has stated he would not be averse to buying at 900!! | bracke
22/9/2016 22:00 | Sorry, looking at candlestick graph above in the header it was around mid July. | lairddavid
22/9/2016 18:06 | That was 14 June but I can't see any unfilled gaps. | bracke
22/9/2016 17:23 | Hi Bracke...I think it was the one when it jumped on results day. | lairddavid
22/9/2016 11:04 | Good day LAIRD Which gap are you referring to? To-days price action following the FED's decision is disappointing. It hasn't even managed to move back above 1200. Maybe it will get a kick up when the US markets opens. | bracke |
