I note the gap at 1309 was filled yesterday. Now being resisted at 1320.

After filling the gap yesterday the share price continued down below 1300 but pulled back up to close just above 1300. A close below 1300 would be concerning.

A slightly disappointing day.

An early rise above 1350 and up to just short of 1370 but unable to hold. Dropped back below support 1320. High volume indicates profit taking. With profit takers out of the way perhaps the next attempt will hold.

Speedy was the involvement of the activist investors who or what ever they are .
.
I was referring to AHT's resent shorting history.
I have done some research on shorting in the past, as I have a long term holding in IQE which was shorted almost to extinction.
It is apparently a accepted ploy when a hedge funds ect. are looking to build a position their first move is often to short the stock.
The article I read was about Blackrock who often hold stock and short it at the same time as a hedge they say.
Hope that makes my ramblings a little clearer.

Perhaps 2flat can confirm which he was referring to, AHT or Speedy.

Getting the absolute bottom is difficult but for me charting gets me in at a reasonable level.



This morning the share price managed to break above 1350 and is currently holding at that level.

Just a reminder the All Time Intraday High was 1375 on 07 September and the All Time High Close was 1347 on 10 October.

This is a classic case of never sell until the story changes.

Sorry Bracke , I read 2F's post as definitely referring to AHT being shorted.

2F interesting to read about the strategy for a takeover starting with shorting.
Tactically it makes sense.
Someone always has a reason to sell, needing the cash , needing to collect CGT allowance , just getting a nose bleed looking at their paper profits, but there are less reasons to buy.
So if they can get a little price fall going the trickle may turn into a torrent.
Then when the price has been low enough for a while a bid at a premium appears better than it is.

I recently looked at the price action with TALK TALK, and wondered if someone was doing the same.
Bought some for the prospective dividend yield , but would not be surprised if there was a bid to follow.

Bracke - T tried to time my buy with a little charting, so didnt get the bottom, but i'm still the right side of it so far.

Now that you have edited your post it is apparent you were referring to Speedy as the shorting target and not AHT.

My phobias are not for discussion but I will say that they do not include Speedy.

You are the second person this week to use the 'S' word. Please desist it upsets the natives.

The share price continues to defy the market direction but is being resisted at 1350. Surely having fought back from 1180 it will at least attempt an all time high and maybe 1400.

I've just been reading activist investors are targeting British firms .
Since June the amount of money invested by them has risen from about £2 billion peaking in Sept. at £3.8 billion.
Speedy Hire appears to be one.
.
I also read, when looking long term at a take over, they often begin with a shorting campaign .
We (AHT) have already had the shorting campaign.
Makes you think?
AHT must look very attractive.

He's probably recommending it as a hedge against AHT.

The share price held up well yesterday considering the market volatility but I thought it disappointing that it didn't have the good grace to fill the gap down at 1308.

So far to-day FTSE has risen and £ dropped but AHT is following S&P and DOW, both of which are just under yesterdays close as I type.

I think that we can be a little more helpful to LAIRD.

There is a view that when the Deutsche Bank analyst who keeps reiterating 'sell 710' (most recently 27/09/16) turns bullish, and comes in with a 'buy' recommendation, that would be the time to consider shorting if you are so inclined! (lol!)

Such a brazen question with no consideration for the sensibilities of the s/holders.

If you'r going to ask such inflammatory questions you must allude to it such as ' it's looking cloudy when do you think it will rain'. Thus you avoid upsetting the 'chosen ones' who are already looking towards 1500 and trying to decide whether it will be a Bentley or a Yacht.
