Merril really have got the knives out for us. Some 500 points lower than other price targets. How can these people, be it the 1300 pundits or Merril justify their wages..

Shares in equipment rental firm Ashtead were under pressure after Bank of America Merrill Lynch slashed its price target on the stock to 820p from 1,000p. The bank noted that in recent weeks, results and comments from a number of US peers have pointed to weakening trends and lower full-year guidance.

The share price has dropped to the lower line I mentioned in my post above.

IF it is going to continue down 930-920 appears likely but beware of false breaks.

As if many are here for the divi...it is not exactly spectacular!

But it won't hurt either as we await the break up towards £10.50 by results early Sept. That's my bet placed, as it was two weeks ago, and nothing has occurred to make me change my mind. If anything the Chinese devaluations have made a U.S. Rate rise less likely, good for AHT.

However, most indications in these weird times seem to be very hard to read and anticipate, so prepared for a longer wait for this to regain recent calendar highs if necessary.

Stock has gone XD today. As from today, the share trades without its divi - hence the share price is adjusted accordingly.

Record date is just the date the company looks to check who its shareholders are. You must be seen to be a holder of record to ensure you get the divi.

The share price remains in the ascending triangle (rising lower line, horizontal top line). One of the lines has to give.

Is ex -div not 15th?Dividend is paid to shareholders on the register on 14th.

During the past couple of weeks 960 has been a s/r zone. An attempt to break above the first major fib level at 986 was resisted on 31 July.

It is trying once again to move above 986. If it makes the break the next resistance is likely at the down sloping median line which is currently at 1003.

A break above 986 appears a good probability but 1003 may be a harder nut to crack.

Brackey - are we again bouncing of some hourly SMA low, or are we just adjusting back up above £10 as we move towards the end of August and the key early Sept. Figures?

My take, for what it's worth, is the latter. China certainly rocking some boats too no doubt...

URI volumes and share price increased just after 3pm, as did AHT.Perhaps Kneeland's presentation at the Jefferies conference has been received positively?. Time will tell.DD

The idea of the everlasting cgt allowance withdrawal is a good one but alas I suspect that physics will not permit such an event.

Given the current CGT rates and the fall in AHT share price from 1200 to 1000 surely there is not much to choose between the two in terms of tax V capital reduction?

Bracke at the current rate of share price decline not long.
The idea was that for every years cgt allowance the share price of remaining shares rises by the same thus it takes for ever to sell them ... I wish.

DOW rise took AHT with it but DOW has now dropped back to yesterdays close.

It's academic at this time but are you aware of the following:

'Compulsory acquisition or 980 (meaning the bidding company has acquired over 90% of the target company's shares and will compulsory acquire the remaining shares, regardless of whether shareholders have accepted the offer or not). At this point it becomes non-elective or a mandatory event.'
