Thanks bracke, as always good to have your views.

Hope it's not long before DD joins in again, wouldn't want to miss his contributions too long ....

The £/$ helped to-day with a close just above 2300. Slightly surprised it didn't close higher.

Now looking for a rise to the last closing high at 2338. A FED rate drop may raise the $ sufficiently to assist the cause.

Good day Disco

If you stop posting your stalkers will consider it a victory. Why don't you simply ignore them and filter their posts. I never bother with the thumbs up/down.

Don't let stupid posters deter you. Unfortunately such people can be found throughout this and similar sites. The introduction of social media sites has brought to the surface some unpleasant aspects of human behaviour which were previously largely hidden.

Thanks, but no thanks.

My interest is confined purely to what is posted on this AHT board, and in that respect I stand by my earlier post.

ianwwwhite if you miss DD4's posts so much go to the CNA BB where you will find many of his 'quality' posts, especially over the last few hours!

Fenners,

Well said! I agree entirely, DD's contribution to this board is valued, it would be a great shame if he allowed others to curtail his posts by their infantile behaviour.

DD I hope you will continue to stick around and post regardless of others who contribute nothing other than a meaningless tick in a box :-)

Disco heard your point and would be sorry to lose your input.

What I would say though is I never notice the ticks up or down and I don't give a toss about any ticks I get or about anyone else's.

Its the quality of the post that matters not my opinion (whether I agree or indeed whether anybody else) agrees with it or not.

Thanks.Have just phoned HL and they said 15%, so have completed the W-8BEN.

It should be 15% but some brokers still apply 30% even upon completion of the W-8BEN. I closed a iDealing account for this very reason.
I've even heard of brokers applying 15% one year and then 30% the following year on the exact same holding, appears to be very broker specific.
Saying that i have never had any issues with Selftrade or H&L.

The withholding tax is 30% for US stock div.s with a refund rate of 15% if you submit a W-8BEN claim form through your (approved) broker. The form has a life of 3 years and can be renewed. All as I recall from a couple of years ago. Hope that helps.

Question: anybody hold any US stock and what's the withholding tax on dividends (even if in an ISA)?. Been told it's 15%.

"downward facing dog".

I am unfamiliar with that chart pattern. It doesn't appear in Bulkowski's Chart Pattern Index.

I refer you to my post 57097.

Looking at the Daily chart for July-Oct 2018 you will see a series of retraces mostly with higher lows and horizontal top line ie. ascending triangle. Whether this pattern will be repeated I don't know. As I posted in 57097 2186 is the level I am watching.

Point taken. In that case would you say that the 6 month line graph above is beginning to look like a 'downward facing dog'? :-)

Good day bracke,

I'm certainly not joining you in any hot tub lark, I hear that sometimes people get burnt!

Congratulations to fenners who has turned the Caterpillar rising costs question into a prime example of Parkinson's Law of Triviality, or 'bike shedding'.

Everyone has a view when it doesn't matter, I prefer to rely upon actual data and results to inform my own investment decisions.

To each his own..

Even better then.
Any construction who do - even more likely to rent.
Remember USA still behind the UK in the evolution from buying to renting

PS So their returns on CAT plant 3 years old would be significantly greater (potentially) than newer more expensive CAT plant (sorry, stating the obvious again probably).

Don't know how much Caterpillar plant AHT purchase, they will IMO just source the cheapest branded equivalent plant (there's enough alternatives out there) and maximise returns no matter what (stating the obvious I know). For existing/new CAT plant I'm assuming they will just elevate the hire charges accordingly and increase margins on older plant (their hire charges do not depend on plant age but ZIP codes and durations - looking at their website and checking the hire charge for a JCB 3C).
