28/8/2018 17:34 | ian Big advantage to 'weetabix lawn'....no need to mow it! Well I don't. All time closing high - 2415 All time intraday high - 2447 It closed above 2400. So far so good. What now? Press on up or consolidate above 2400. | bracke
28/8/2018 15:35 | Hi bracke, I just popped in from the garden, where I am trying to give my lawn the horticultural equivalent of the 'kiss of life', looks a bit like a weetabix at the moment! When/if the breakout? I would look for three days closing significantly above resistance of 2400, and a minor retest before I was convinced that we did indeed have a true breakout. When? Probably before results bearing in mind most traders seem to follow Rothchilds 'buy on the cannons, sell on the trumpets' maxim. As I mentioned, I won't be doing either! | ianwwwhite
28/8/2018 13:32 | Good afternoon bracke, Thanks for you comments and graph. 'making higher lows but not higher highs' - I understand from my source that this is a characteristic of an 'ascending triangle' so no worries there. As you say, the question is whether today's rise will hold and confirm the breakout - I am hopeful but I am not betting on it. I have reverted to LTH inactivity for the present. :-) | ianwwwhite
28/8/2018 11:00 | Good day all Another gap on opening driven by the rise in yesterdays US Markets. A new intraday high. Will this be fourth time lucky to hold above 2400? In a previous post I mentioned "showing willing" by reaching the blue ML. It's done that and went beyond but has dropped back to rest on the ML. Holding above 2400 is likely to be determined by what the US does later. ian On the chart below you will observe that the share price has been making higher lows but not higher highs. The highs are horizontal. If it is to truly breakout it has to make a new high and hold it or retrace slightly and then move back up. It looks promising but is not yet confirmed. 28/8/2018 08:59 | DD4 Ask and ye shall receive... Early days but looks like a possible breakout attempt from the recent ascending triangle formation? | ianwwwhite
27/8/2018 19:09 | DOW looking perky today, up 1%.......URI up over 2%.Let's hope AHT follows suit.DD | discodave4
24/8/2018 19:24 | Have a good weekend too Ian.......and all AHT'ers. | discodave4
24/8/2018 18:13 | Good afternoon bracke A week of modest but steady progress, but as you say two gaps to fill, and resistance at around 2400 is still proving difficult to overcome. More fun next week no doubt. In the meantime, having played golf today in bright sunshine, heavy showers, hailstones and thunder, it looks like our glorious summer may be coming to an end. A happy weekend to all, enjoy it while you can :-) | ianwwwhite
24/8/2018 16:18 | And another opening gap. | bracke
23/8/2018 17:50 | Good day ian It appeared early on that it was going to reach the blue ML but didn't quite make it and then dropped during the afternoon. There's a small opening gap from this morning to fill. | bracke
23/8/2018 17:40 | Thanks for the graph bracke, much appreciated. A reasonable tick up today, +17p to £23.70 at the close, with increased volume looks encouraging, as we head towards the Q1 results and AGM on 11th Sept, and dividend of 27.5p payable on 14th Sept. What's not to like? | ianwwwhite
23/8/2018 17:35 | (duplicate post removed) - doh! | ianwwwhite
22/8/2018 14:15 | Good afternoon bracke, Lol! Thanks for sharing your thoughts oh revered Elite Guru, so basically it could go either way? Can't argue with that. :-) look forward to seeing the chart in due course, but I am neither a buyer nor a seller at current prices, it looks to me fairly priced at present. | ianwwwhite
22/8/2018 11:10 | Good day ian 'Elite' Guru if you please! I was perusing the chart last week and thought it was (I will now use a highly technical term) 'jumbled'. Yes I know this term will cause consternation but sometimes it is necessary to call a spade a digging implement. I say 'jumbled' because if you view a daily chart and compare the recent price action with what has gone before it appears that the share price is having a crisis of decision making. A touch of the 'Grand Old Duke Of York'.However enough of this technical talk lets get down to cats entrails. I can hear the the argument now....yes Oh! Elite One but is it not making higher highs and higher lows. Yes it is but look at the overall price action and the MACD which is in the doldrums. Viewing the chart below suggests a couple of options: 1 Test the last low with a possible drop to the red ML and maybe 2231. 2 Show willing to rise to a new high by at least reaching the blue ML. It would be un AHT like if there was not a move close to or at the the 1st qtr results and AGM on 11 September. AHT DAILY | bracke
22/8/2018 09:59 | Where's our retained guru when you need him? Looks like we have an ascending triangle forming which might indicate a breakout in the coming weeks - or might not! Volume seems to have tailed off recently. Of course technical analysis might well be trumped by the 'donald' factor... (DYOR) | ianwwwhite
20/8/2018 15:55 | Hi 2FP, I can but agree, but who knew Ashtead would turn into the company it is today? I think the current management deserve a lot of credit for an outstanding performance. | ianwwwhite
20/8/2018 10:04 | Morning ian Reviewing my trading history I find I have traded AHT too often. It has paid for most of my mistakes. My first buy was 2011 at £1.69 if I had been a long term er then, I would be a richer man today . With Trump's Trade wars, Brexit, and the EU banks its the best hedge I can find. as always I live in hope. Cheers | 2flatpack
20/8/2018 09:46 | Good morning 2fp Smart work, congratulations on your successful trades. Q1 results are due 11th Sept, so perhaps we might even see a rise beforehand. In any event, I still see AHT as a keeper for the long term, until the story changes. Well done! | ianwwwhite
20/8/2018 09:07 | Morning all ian bottled out of the short at 2376 as it started to climb . No complaints 50 pts. . Could not understand the drop day before it went ex, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Jumped in around 2345 . I am now more than fully loaded and smug as hell at picking up the divi. Would have been nice to top up at the 200 day . Onward and upward. Cheers | 2flatpack
17/8/2018 18:11 | Amazing how AHT managed to claw itself back to par before the close. Not too disappointed at this recovery, the amount of shares I am minded to buy to add to my existing holding if we plumb the depths is quite modest, so no worries there. Good weekend all . | ianwwwhite
17/8/2018 16:36 | He who hesitates hopefully gets another chance. | bracke
17/8/2018 16:00 | Hi bracke Looking back it seemed that there was a brief opportunity on 2nd Aug at 2230p which I missed, I would be happy to take that if it reoccurs... | ianwwwhite
17/8/2018 15:35 | Good day ian It is currently of academic interest but it can be a guide to future price action. Hopefully 2fp did not cover too early. I think there is little doubt that the £/$ is responsible for holding the share price at the current levels. It was only 10p short of your target a few weeks ago, were you not tempted? The qtr 1 results and AGM are on 11 Sept. Maybe your chance will come then. | bracke
16/8/2018 18:59 | Hi bracke No worries, if you haven't got a position currently it is probably only of academic interest. Interested to know how 2FP is getting on with his short, looks like he struck gold! I'm still waiting 'till we get down to around 2220 to buy a few back, but AHT is looking surprisingly resilient, probably because of the dollar surge? Edit: It appears I spoke too soon .. | ianwwwhite |
