SP to drop 33p tomorrow?

I note although the £/$ has dropped the FTSE has also dropped and the US Futures.

Looks like FTSE wants to test 7500.

"You may also not be eligible for compensation under the FSCS.

Not cake and eat it. I just want to trade as pre ESMA. I don't need the EU to decide what I do with my money.

Perhaps the ESMA rules could have applied to people trading in their first 3-4 years. After that you have a good idea if you want to continue or not.

Afternoon bracke
.
I did consider 'professional' trader status which operates with lower margin requirements but the sum required to be deposited in the account is very large plus the protective regulations do not cover professional traders.
.
Cake and eat it come to mind.

Which protective regulations are these ? The one's that protect you from yourself?
Sorry to go on, but I hate it when some faceless bureaucrat will not let me lose my money my chosen way,
Cheers

Afternoon All.
According to IG 79% of all Spread betting account's lose money, as one of the top 21%
I must ask why profitability is not one of the criteria for elective professional traders.
.
Like most men they obsessed with size.
.
IG Do you have a financial instrument portfolio exceeding €500k?
.
It would appear profit or loss is of no importance, if you have a big enough account.
Only us poor slob's must suffer the nanny states control's.

G'day bracke,

It seems to me the problem is that the new rules don't distinguish between experienced traders who have a proven track record, such as yourself, and what I perceive to be the cowboy element, new to the game and gambling with money that they can't afford to repay when they lose.

As buffett said, when the tide goes out, you find out who has been swimming naked, and others have to pick up the tab.

In any event good luck with your antipodean expedition, I take it you will be trading indexes?

Edit: Apparently 230 species of native amphibians, all frogs, can be found in Oz! ( )
You'l be in safe hands with Bumpy Rocket, Eastern Banjo and friends....

No mention of frogs.....thank goodness.

The ESMA rules mean that a far larger sum of money has to remain in the account when trading which I am not prepared to do. The IC account operates with low margin requirements and thus far less cash in the account.

It will be interesting to see if any UK sbet companies cease trading as a result of the ESMA rules resulting in far less business.

It really depends whether the segregated funds are 'ring fenced' and treated the same as 'clients funds' in this country in the event of a liquidation.

In any event, good luck with your new venture. :-)

I note that Australia has more than 378 mammal species, 828 bird species, 4000 fish species, 300 species of lizards, 140 snake species, two crocodile species and around 50 types of marine mammal. Ample scope for a cartoon or two if needed!

"....is that the same as 'investment casino jockeys'?"
=====================================================

Very similar.

"Regulated by ASiC (AFSL #335692 ). IC Markets puts all client funds in a segregated bank account and uses tier-1 banks for this. IC Markets have been established since 2007, and have a head office in Australia."

My understanding is that ASiC provides a compensation scheme similar to the FCA.

Worth noting that 'Yes you can open an account in Australia. One thing to note however is they do not have an equivalent to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). So if the broker goes pop you will be hard pushed to recover any of your funds' or so I read....

I have edited an early post.

The All Time Closing High was on 18 July 2018 - 2412.

Today the intraday high was 2438 and close was 2409 so no coconut.

Fair enough 2flat if you trade for fun and don't take it too seriously but for dedicated retail traders the ESMA rules have largely ruined their trading.

Morning bracke

Basicley I use the SB account for fun , and to stop me playing with my investment accounts.
I have reduced the size per point, so I get the same buzz for smaller risk.
Unfortunately or fortunately the account has been profitable so I may lose a little bit of spare cash .Hopefully the profits will build and the restrictions will not be a problem, as I enjoy the possibility to short.
Cheers
