Very good volume. Shorters covering and buyers buying.

Now a push over 950 required after which 985 which may prove more difficult to overcome. Why is that you ask? Because it is a fib (fibonacchi) and also the ML (Median Line) middle line of the descending PF (Pitchfork).

U.S. GDP revised up to 3.7 from 2.3 good for URI and should be good for AHT. But..... we all know Ashtead

I heartily agree, and this AHT thread is exceptional in the quality and nature of the posters and the content of the posts.

Educational, sociable, and different points of view are welcomed, discussed and respected. Bit like an on-line pub, without the booze!

Cheers!

Thank you ian

I did not take your comments to heart.

When I first started visiting financial web sites I was taken aback by the nastiness and hostility. I couldn't understand it given that we all are trying to achieve the same thing. It seems that anonymity encourages people to loose their inhibitions or perhaps that is how they are normally!

Thanks, interesting website and read.

As for the TA comments, we were only pulling your leg, you know how much we value your contributions!

ian, disco and et al

It was not my intention to confuse you with TA jargon. I don't like it myself and try to avoid using it.

My suggestion is that a 'google' will explain it better than I. You need not go into detail just an understanding.

The SP

I will not mention the gaps you can see them yourselves.

It's back up to 930 resistance. Needs a shove to take it to 950.

You may find this interesting.

DD,

I think he was being uncharacteristically delphic...oracles sometimes are ((lol!)

I agree, looks like we can expect a better day today, although I think that this market correction is far from over....

In the absence of our guru perhaps I might interpret:

I think bracke meant to say:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'when I draw the Andrews Pitchfork I also draw a modified-Schiff Pitchfork. This modified-Schiff Pitchfork is derived by moving the fork's origin one-half (1/2) the vertical distance and one-half (1/2) the horizontal distance between the high and low on the chart.
The origin of the fork is now at the mid-point of the trendline drawn between the high and low points.
As you are probably aware there is an 80% probability of reaching the median line which in my experience is correct.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shamelessly plagiarised from

Hope this helps!

bracke,Will echo what Ian has implied - wtf you on about?"When I draw the PF I also draw the Mod Schiff which is less steep. As you are probably aware there is an 80% probability of reaching the ML which in my experience is correct".Please don't start posting like most TA's on here, gibberish that us mere simpletons (well me anyway) cannot make head nor tail of - truly only picked up things because you explained them in a way that was a lot clearer, not like the example above!.Thanks in advance of your next enlightening, and understandable, post.DD

.... you havin' a larf or what?

When I said I had heard of technical analysis, that's about the limit of my understanding, hence your commentary from time to time is very useful, ta.

Keep up the good work!

Are the tiles nailed or clipped? I understand that clips are best for situations similar to yours.

You could have whittled a few cricket bats out of that tree.

glorious blue sky's today, in the 70's again.

wet and windy weather to return up north tomorrow.

not bothered about the rain, it's the wind that I don't like.

Living on the bank top overlooking the Tyne and Tynemouth, the wind funnels down the river and hits our houses at an alarming rate.

We don't bother claiming insurance on roofs anymore, as we always get hit at least twice a year, nice co-operative we have tho, as the 8 house on our side of the square always get hit, but we share the bill amongst us all, Feb was a bit expensive 1 tile off, cost £180, but nxt door had a 20 ft hole in his roof, cost £180.. swings and roundabouts.

willow tree out and now on the bonfire, it was leaning at 45 degrees and thought if this comes out in the high winds, it'll take nxt doors garden with it, so as much as I felt guilty destroying a tree, it had to be done.

nice looking in again,

kids dinner then rugby tonight,

then sum beer I think

Very much agree.

When I draw the PF I also draw the Mod Schiff which is less steep. As you are probably aware there is an 80% probability of reaching the ML which in my experience is correct.

Yes practice and understanding is required but is not difficult to understand the basics.

We each find what suits us and with which we achieve success.

Although there is little correlation between HSS's UK based hire operation and AHT. Interesting to note that they point to unpredictable trading in their disappointing half year results statement:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HSS throws another spanner in the works with profit warning
The tool hire company, which told investors in June that it would miss expectations, disappoints again by warning full-year earnings will be below forecasts on the back of "unpredictable trading" (Telegraph)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Holders who bought in the February IPO will be nursing significant losses unfortunately.

Straightforward?

The steepness of the Pitchfork channel depends on the placement of the three drawing points, in particular point 1, which is the start of the median line. Even though point one usually starts with a reaction high or low, it is sometimes necessary to adjust point 1 to insure a realistic price channel. Unfortunately, there are no hard rules for point placement. Instead, chartists must use judgment and experience when drawing channels. This is where the subjective nature of technical analysis comes into play. As with most aspects of technical analysis, it is important to build experience by experimenting with Andrews' Pitchfork. See what works and what does not work first hand. This is the only real way to master an indicator.

Seems like more an art than a science to me!

It has rebounded. Depends how far you were expecting it to rise.

It's close to first resistance now i.e. 930. If it is able to overcome resistance then 950 with 990/1000 a possibility as it runs up to 1st qtr results on 02 Sept.
