Perhaps it's the move into 3G. I just saw this: http://www.arc.com/newsandevents/PressRelease.html?id=252 TTPCom Adopts ARC's Configurable CPU for 3G Cellular Baseband Engines

Just sold out, revenue at £5m is less than £5.4m in H1 and much less than expectations, market was pencilling in over £12m for the full year. Given this includes one license for 900k, the other 18 total only £4.1m. No growth at all and another full year loss. Poor.

Ameer - Everything looks promising. Sharescope has consensus EPS of 1.31p to 12/06 and 2.84p to 12/07. Stripping out cash and equivalents gives a pe of 6.51 and then 3! Have I got my sums wrong or has the market yet to wake up to this company's potential?

This share has been turning round in the last few weeks. In the first half of 2005, ARC passed the 100 customer milestone with 17 new processor contracts, a 55 percent year-on-year gain from the 11 licenses signed in the first half 2004. For the six months ended 30th June 2005 the consolidated balance sheet shows that the company had cash of £19.25 millions and short term investment of £13.80 millions, worth 23.84p per share, bringing total net assets to £35.47 millions. Net operating expenses declined further by 18% as net loss narrowed to £1.4 million. Cash usage in the first half of 2005 decreased to £0.5 million. On 02/12/05 Legal & General Investment Ltd increased holding to 16,050,000 shares (10.78%). Fidelity Investments International also increased holding to 4,498,928 shares (3.02%) on 06/11/05.

Those 2 * 250,000 Buys after the close yesterday were probably responsible for taking WINS off sole Offer & flipping to sole Bid

Looks ready to finally bounce after low-volume MM-induced rapid fall - low reached of 28.5 was the exact Fibonacci 50% retracement of the entire move off the 14p low to the 43p high!

These news items do not appear on ARCs website yet. http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/-arc-international-creates-128-bit-extended-instructions-reduce-/2005/oct/1196812.htm http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20051017PR201.html Here's hoping this baby will do a SEG at some point. The management are looking very strong but still a problem with revenue. Let's hope that Monica Johnson's departure (CFO) does not mean anything sinister is about to happen.

ARC says patents ready to protect configurability Peter Clarke EE Times (08/03/2005 10:05 AM EDT) http://www.eetimes.com/news/semi/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JJNDCFMK4B244QSNDBESKHA?articleID=167100484 LONDON - Earlier this year Arc International plc, a licensor of configurable processor intellectual property, was granted a series of patents, one of which it believes is fundamental to the use of configurable instruction sets within a system-level integrated circuit. In an interview with EE Times Carl Schlachte, chief executive officer of ARC, noted that most major licensors of processors are now using the term configurable to describe some aspect of their processor offerings. ARC was established as an independent company in 1998 and has had patents pending for a number of years, Schlachte said. ARC received four additional patent grants covering broad aspects of the company's products in March 2005. Chief among the recent awards was the grant by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) of patent number 6,862,563, which is fundamental to the design of a System-on-Chip (SoC) using configurable CPU technology, the company has claimed. "The '563 patent is important. There's 14 more that have been granted. And we have 44 patents pending," said Schlachte. When asked if ARC was letting rivals, such as ARM Holdings plc, MIPS Technologies Inc. and Tensilica Inc., infringe on its patents, Schlachte said: "ARM and MIPS endorsing configurability is a good thing." He added: "We have a duty to investors to protect our position. We vigorously defend our intellectual property but we prefer to work with all companies to endorse configurability. We are, after all, an intellectual licensing company," Schlachte said. When asked if discussions with other processor licensors were underway, Schlachte declined to comment.

If I'd looked at last weeks Shares Mag earlier I would have known about the rise but since I was away until Monday I couldn't see a reason for it!! Not sure it warranted a 20% increase but it will probably fall back to the 31p-32p mark over the next week or two without any news at which point it could be worth picking up again.
