SAIC sales soar

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, China's second largest automaker, reported sales for 2005 grew 24 percent to 1.05 million units, making it the second domestic automaker with sales over 1 million in a year.

Its passenger car sales increased 20 percent under two joint ventures with Volkswagen AG and Gerneral Motors Corp while the rise in sales of commercial cars jumped 36 percent to 310,000 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling Automotive Corp ranked second with 287,000 units, up 43.4 percent among domestic mini-van manufacturers. Saangyang Motor Corp of South Korea, which was acquired by SAIC in early 2005, saw its sales propel 80.5 percent out of the South Korean market to 67,763 cars in 2005 year-on-year.

Antonov agrees 2 mln eur backup funding facility on favourable terms

LONDON (AFX) - Antonov PLC said it has agreed a 2 mln eur backup funding
facility with certain investors on terms which are very favourable to the
company.
After a detailed review of current and pending customer commitments, the
board said it decided that securing such a facility was the prudent course of
action in the run-up to the first significant sales of the company's AMM unit
around mid 2006 and other new customer projects which are expected to arise
around the same time.
In particular, the company anticipates that it may need additional capital
to cover its working capital position, certain capital equipment purchases,
recruitment of a limited number of specialist engineering and sales staff, and
unbudgeted travel costs.
The board said it hopes it will not be necessary to drawdown on the
facility.
The facility has been arranged in the form of a put and call option with
warrants attached.

Antonov looks ready for a considerable upward re-rating: Tier 1 interest is a significant aspect and so also is the mention of the Chinese interest(a very senior contingent were apparently in evidence and in discussion with Antonov at one of the motor shows I am told).

One of the most confident statements I have seen - it will be picked up by the more technically astute analysts no doubt and clients/funds should start to be put in at these levels.

Antonov confident of revenue prospects, good margins in 2006

LONDON (AFX) - Antonov PLC, an automotive technology company, said it made
"considerable" progress this year and that it is confident of firm revenue
prospects with good margins in 2006.
"The year to date has been an extremely busy one with significant progress
being made in bringing the Antonov technology to market," the company said in a
third-quarter trading update.
"The Antonov technology is now being considered for high volume
applications, and, with the orders we have already received and the progress we
continue to make in the development of our products, we are confident of firm
revenue prospects with good margin in 2006," it said.
The company said it received excellent feedback from both the recent SEMA
show in Las Vegas and the Performance Racing Trade Show in Orlando, at which the
Antonov Mechanical Module two-speed supercharger drive unit was launched.
"As a result, there has been strong demand from OEMs (original equipment
manufacturers) and Tier 1 suppliers for units for evaluation, including a
quotation request for up to 100,000 units a year," it said.
The company has transformed itself from a business concentrating primarily
on research and development into a company focused on the commercialisation of
its technology.
"The success of our strategy is evidenced by the successful launch of the
AMM, the full benefits of which should come through in 2006. I look forward to
the coming year with confidence," said chief executive John Moore.
Some disruption to the six-speed Antonov Automatic Drive (AAD) automatic
transmission resulted following the collapse of MG Rover, as announced in April.
The company is in talks with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp regarding the
AAD.
"There has also been very strong interest from other Chinese manufacturers
in the technology, as well as renewed interest in Japan and Europe," it said.
Antonov, which in September announced that Antonov Automotive Technologies
BV had filed an action against Toyota alleging infringement of its patents, also
said it is continuing discussions with Toyota with a view to resolving the
dispute before the completion of the formal legal action.
