1347: yes, I did notice that. It’s consistent with releasing the RNS in mid-afternoon on a Friday. All that guff about raising Poundland’s output above about 6.5mmscfd assumed a successful sidetrack that doubled production. They said a couple of months ago that a second compressor would be of little use other than as a back-up to the existing one if the sidetrack failed to find commercial volumes of gas.

Will Mercuria cut them more slack, I wonder? Mercuria have an interest in optimising the total volume of gas recovered from the field, since they’ve got that 8% of turnover royalty. They won’t want Anguish running it really hot with the second compressor to the detriment of recoverable volumes in the longer term, will they? I suppose it may depend on whether they incorporated the forward sales contracts with Anguish in a more complex series of hedge deals with other counterparties. Anguish’s brokers will really be earning their fees if they can get a big enough placing away, what? It isn’t looking too good, is it?

JT It does seem to be a repeat of attempt one. As for the other questions, I don't know, it will add redundancy and may add a bit to the flow rate (which needs to be kept above the hedged volume), but wasn't the compressor supposed to be installed by now anyway, some snippets from their previous RNS announcements:

"2nd compressor to be delivered in December, allowing an increase up to 12mmscfd by January 2023."

"Second compressor has arrived onsite and is expected to be operational during the course of January"

"There is much to look forward to in the year ahead: not least the bringing online of the second compressor and the ability to run the process plant at rates above 10mmscfd with a backdrop of high gas and rolled gas hedge prices..."

"The second compressor is already on site together with its control computer and driver engine and is being tied into the main plant. It is expected that the second compressor will be in dynamic commissioning during the second half of January and therefore able to process a further 6.4 mmscfd of gas volumes raising the plant's processing capacity to close to 12.8 mmscfd."

Yes the rig will be costing a packet, it's been there well over 3 months now. As I've said before, they are skating on thin ice and it's getting thinner every day.

Did you also pick up on the terseness in the last RNS? Something I have observed in the past when things aren't going exactly to some (misleading) plan (or maybe they are?).

Jobless LETSBUY1 (bought 1 share) put 100k in???? HILARIOUS. First he needs a grasp of the English language and second thing, he needs to be able to move out of the caravan he shares with his little brother at JAYWICK. I'd give them my address so they can clean my toilets for a few quid but they wouldn't be able to afford the fares to get here. Poor lads.

1347: I’ve assumed that both the first and second sidetracks have failed and they’re milling another hole in the casing to address the reservoir from another angle. Impossible to say whether they’ve lost gear down the well. They may have been fishing, I suppose. Essentially, it’s another whole sidetrack, isn’t it?

What virtually everyone on the other site has ignored is the cost of all this and how Anguish is to pay for it. And it’s not clear to me why they’re connecting up the second compressor before a sidetrack has found enough gas to justify it. Doesn’t it mean they’ll have to re-calibrate the system twice, if they find gas? So are they no longer expecting the sidetrack effort to find any? Or is the first compressor due for a service, having been run at over 5mmscfd for a few months? Hopefully, we’ll know much more with the cartoon within the next couple of days. Ack ack ack.

So could be a wild shot in the dark, but have they got to within 100 metres and something's broken or got stuck again needing another milling activity? Could that explain why it is 'likely' to be extended by 'approximately' 14 days?

gaffer73: exactly. But they have to find gas or this may be the end of the road. So they can’t merely cut their losses. As Bob Dylan would put it “the only thing they know how to do is to keep on keeping on”. Until the money runs out or they get through to the reservoir. Running on fumes. Last chance saloon. Placing coming, somehow or other. Otherwise, one might expect a suspension.
