Lefrene,

It is, as I have stated for a few years, merely a mechanism enabled by Governments (most notably the US but others as well) to accustom users to accept the concept of a digital currency before they launch their own (which they will in the not too distant future). Then there will be regulation of digital currencies and bitcoin will slowly evaporate.

Apologies in advance to readers for this comment which I am aware is not related to AAZ - will ensure it is an isolated one.

Open reach needs to get a move on jb, you’d be surprised how much of the country suffers with terrible broadband speeds particularly now with a lot of people working and schooling at home. Most broadband is on a contended line which means that everyone is competing for bandwidth from the same source.

If you live in a city or town you are very likely to have decent access to fast broadband with speeds certainly above 30meg download. If Virgin is available they usually have very cheap 1 year deals to entice you in and then they move you onto regular higher tariffs thereafter. Virgin only use FTTP and it’s very quick and reliable.

I can’t talk re Terropols but surely this is only becoming available once there is fibre to the cabinet?
Our cabinet is just the end of the road, sure we’re in a village but the cable for my house can only be 400 yds from the cabinet. I doubt they laid cable all the way from the exchange to the house just for him. More likely it was planned to the cabinet (isnt this what OpenReach is getting billions from the govt to do) and then it’s just extended to the house?

I have been with Virgin for over 20 years and various properties always fiber always fast rarely a problem. Customer service has varied from shocking to currently very good always open to reduce costs if you ask. I hate BT with a passion having to move house frequently in my younger days pre Virgin I begrudged paying over £100+ to get the line 'reconnected' on moving in.

Trust me, the costs do not add up. Say 5 householders with no broadband available wanted a line putting in. You are looking at 20-25k installation into one address and then the signal would then be sent via satellite to the other four houses. Monthly charges of about £600 split between 5 houses, so £120 per month per house. It’s what my company specialise in doing.

Plusnet is under the BT umbrella, and BT also make money from LLU (Local Loop umbundling) ie when third parties such as Vodophone, John Lewis, etc use BT infrastructure.

Fozzie, the service here only available via BT. Can not change.

Very unlikely Katsy as majority of contracts are 24 months and then customers are free to move to another supplier. BT did all the work and then you move to Plusnet, Vodafone, John Lewis or one of many many other companies all offering ever cheaper prices.

Fozzie you have to think long term and take into account the costs of maintaining old systems AKA POTS. Think of the costs of all those engineer visits and the demand on customer services. They will get their ROI in time.

Yeah it’s free fozzie. I’ve had fibre to the house for just over 2 years now. It’s either available or isn’t though. Depends on local infrastructure and then getting in before all the available “slots” go.
Just signed a new deal with BT. Cheaper than last time. So fast.
Get on BT site and enter postcode and it’ll tell you if you can get it. Or at least that was what I did 2 years ago.
Think full fibre to house are called the full fibre 100, 300 and 900 packages.

FOZZIE, do not remember the name of it (exchange to home somenthing along those lines)...but the cable came to the local box and then shared with several properties. No cost to me. just contract and his the faster broadband, you get a choise of few speeds available and priced accordigly.

@jbe I am in SBTX it is doing really well today but I expect it to do even better in the coming months. £1 is my price target, it’s an undercover 4D Pharma IMO, get in while it’s cheap

Katsy I used to be with BT, never had an issue. Moved to Virgin just as first lock down started and regretted it immediately. Can't wait to move away from them
