01/10/2017 09:13 | blackgold, I think that Stalin/Communism needed an largely atheistic population to succeed, viz a vie the destruction of the Church system which had a powerful voice at the time. My argument was that it was not the adherents of Atheism that were waging war just that Atheism was beneficial to Stalin's cause. | fireplace22
30/9/2017 17:24 | interesting stuff tournesol, yes throughout all history surely many are guilty of the most atrocious acts against different country's or ethnic group's wrought in the name of religion/ideology, to me atheism must be as extreme a belief as any extreme religious group/cult professing the existence of a God, as it is demonstrable that, as of yet no human has been able to demonstrate to an extent that mankind will except as an undeniable truth, the existence or none existence of God. surly what ever is the truth man has demonstrated a proneness to preform such wicked acts in support of their religion/ideology to gain power and dominance, like that of Joseph Stalin with his form of Socialism that instigated the USSR anti-religious campaign (1928–1941) who's "main target of the anti-religious campaign in the 1920s and 1930s was the Russian Orthodox Church",where "More than 85,000 Orthodox priests were shot in 1937 alone.[2] Only a twelfth of the Russian Orthodox Church's priests were left functioning in their parishes by 1941 ". . | blackgold00
30/9/2017 15:19 | I think you'll find that the majority in Britain are at best agnostic ( translation - they don't care about religion but have not thought sufficiently about it to completely dismiss it) or atheist (they have bothered to think about it and come to the obvious conclusion.) The absurdity is that religion is aided and abetted by a perverse state school system which allows our taxes to support 'faith' schools. | fireplace22 |
