Decided to join the party today having got some funds. A slight uptick to .55p with my broker when it was .53p yesterday but hey ho. I hope for the long awaited contract news which would certainly light a fuse under this. I also think it may have bounced off its bottom and we may see a gap up taking place as this is surely oversold!

China overtakes Singapore in jack-up rig construction

Shanghai: China has overtaken Singapore as the world’s biggest builder of jack-up rigs, with 47% of the global orderbook compared to Singapore’s 33%.

Between 2000 and 2010, yards in Singapore built 55% of global deliveries of jack-up rigs, according to research by Douglas-Westwood.

The research group said Chinese yards had secured their market share by offering clients highly attractive financing packages.

Singapore yards have countered this by pursuing higher value EPC contracts such as Keppel’s ‘CAN DO’ drillship project, which will be the most technically advanced asset of its kind.

The city-state has also secured high-value contracts for construction of floating LNG (FLNG) units for both Keppel and Sembcorp.

“We do not expect Singapore to completely retreat from the jack-up market. However, this focus on frontier EPC segments is both a clear reaction to the inevitable rise of China (in what was considered ‘their’ business) and a warning shot to South Korean dominance in both drillships and FLNG,” Douglas-Westwood said of the Singapore market in a release.

A tighter price environment has hit South Korean yards’ market share. Douglas-Westwood says that a shift away from heavy construction in the country seems likely, as suggested by Samsung Heavy Industry’s recently announced merger with Samsung Engineering. [21/10/14]

AMED is a highly illiquid stock, where Qatar Investment Corporation (61.09%), Mena Global Investments 1 Limited (9.20%), Global Tech Investments 1 (5.28%) and Dune Engineering PTE Limited (5.19%) hold 80.76% between them. So effectively, only a 19.24% free float.

Any good RNS and this will gap up sharply and move rapidly on what will be big volume.

The time to be holding is now imo...

Copenhagen: Su Bo, China’s vice-minister of industry and information technology, vowed this morning to seek greater international cooperation as the nation looks to grow its shipping and shipbuilding prowess. Speaking at the inaugural Danish Maritime Forum in Copenhagen, Su noted how China had built up world-leading orderbooks at its shipyards, but it would seek to rise up the ranks further.

“We are trying to reach international standards in global shipbuilding,” he said, paying particular attention to ambitious LNG and offshore projects.

“In the coming years Chinese shipping will raise the standards of technology and quality,” Su vowed. [08/10/14]

Encouraging, even though Glen Lau has said in the recent proactiveinvestors.com interview that 'big ticket' business could likely come from outside China.

Ged5 & DtC - many thanks for making the effort to post the above....give some confidence that in 12 months time we may be capitalised at a much bigger value than current...particularly if they manage to pick up some other orders from the current dialogue...
..and there is income from MGR to be considered on top of this....!
