I even got a partial fill at 143p. I asked IBKR about all this and as far as I can gather they don't route an order through the LSE if it's below the offer.

goldrush, the "DMA" is not DMA. It's manipulated hogwash. There's only 1200 shares on the 151p "bid". If there was real demand there would be much more. But whatever I do I can't get an order onto the bid side, and I'm not paying 159p when I noticed a similar situation a couple of days ago and eventually got let in at 144p.

cyberbub, it's auto/computer-generated gumpf/'analysis' (as is all the simplywallstreet stuff) - not worth reading imo.

There is 4,082 available @159p on DMA....whether they give them to you or not is another thing....if they go the price will jump up IMHO....

The shares are so tightly held and as excellance says there are so few shares to make an orderly market.....means as production ramps up etc....price goes up....seems logical ....let's see

When I bought into Altyn known as hambledon years ago they got to nearly 20 p and then tanked in today's prices that would be 20 quid I know there was dilution and other issues but if looking at ratio is still very low and just imagine if everything goes to plan .

There are too few shares to make an orderly market, but do we really want more liquidity?

When the share price goes to a reasonably fair value the spread will feel normal and liquidity won't be a problem.

This is on the main market but does anyone here have DMA access to the book? Volume is miniscule, the spread is ridiculous, price all over the place. The trades posted mean nothing.

Cyberbub - there were some non-operational issues that hit confidence and share price in that period. Auditors comments about large prepayments made to potential parties and suspension due to failing to produce accounts on time, combined with poor communication and a few downside surprises along the way.

Underlying operational progress through the period has been pretty good and has been working up to the step change that is now about to happen - if those non-operational issues had not occurred I doubt we’d have had the recent lows and would probably be a bit higher.

They need to continue backing the operational progress with good communication and good corporate governance which to be fair seems to be now the case.

Gold grades are pretty stable, but are more than adequate to result in highly profitable margins. See my earlier post on projected operating profits in 2024.

Production costs are low, under $1000/oz once the new capacity comes online. The company benefits from the long-term decline in the tenge/$, and cheap local labour. Unlike say Australia, there is not such a large gold mining industry in Kazakhstan so there is comparatively little competition for ALTN’s skilled labour. And of course Kazakhstan has much lower GDP/capita (and hence lower real wages) than in developed economies such as Australia, Canada and the US. While its production is still priced in dollars. So cost competitiveness is continually increasing relative to these other mining economies.

Fair enough tim000. Looking at recent RNSes though, the grades are still fairly low, in the low 2g/t area. Are the production costs also below average? Or are the grades predicted to rise?

I too had sold out until the last month or so. My reason was that the Directors were seemingly making no progress on growing production and that the expected increase in grades as they moved deeper underground had not materialised. I bought back because of the low share price, imminent increase in production and the prospect of a rising pog. I then attended the AGM and was really impressed with the ambitious growth plans of the family, and the thoughtful way they were managing the process. That has resulted in me tripling my holding since the AGM.

Joshua Rowe of Manchester is the HNW you refer to cyberbub. He reduced his holding to under 3%, announced on 22/10/20.

There are several factors contributing to today's excitement, not least increased production, increased gold prices, and a second mine within two years.

I remember owning shares here about 3-4 years ago, I bought around 120-130p I think, watched it go well above 200p and then all the way back down again.... I recall that it was considered seriously undervalued at that time too, but it never ended up leading to any rerating. Maybe it was considered too opaque in terms of the secretive family holders with a controlling share, or the gold grades weren't great, I can't remember.

What makes this time different - just the POG, or is it a new mine coming online as I'm gathering from recent posts? Or has some big holder finally sold out? Not that big overseas holders in these Asian/ex-Soviet state companies usually feel much of an obligation to comply with LSE disclosure rules, in my experience....

Wasn't there some random HNW from Liverpool or somewhere who bought a disclosable holding? Is he still in?

Thanks for any updates :-)

Spot on excellance. dofmeister the mid price may indeed fallback a little but it will be interesting to see how many shares are on the offer....what was clear tonight somebody wanted them to balance their books or whatever. There obviously were not too many shares around for them to pick up.
