Contract worth more than 900 million euros. Alstom to supply the largest clean coal power plant ever built in Poland
16 October 2006

Alstom has signed a contract worth over 900 million euros to build a 833 MW turnkey clean coal power plant in Belchatow, Poland, for Polish utility BOT Elektrownia Belchatow SA.*

The new plant will be the largest power plant ever built in the country. It is scheduled to begin commercial operation in October 2010.

As a plant integrator, Alstom will design, build and commission the new lignite-fired power plant, which will achieve efficiencies of up to 42%, making it the most efficient lignite-fired coal plant in the country and one of the most advanced lignite-fired plants in the world.

Alstom will manufacture and supply all the main equipment, including the advanced supercritical boiler, the steam turbine, the turbo generator and the control system.

The low NOx boiler will be integrated with a wet flue gas desulphurisation system so that emissions of sulphur dioxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) will be reduced to meet emission levels required by the EU's Large Combustion Plant Directive.

The plant is designed to operate with a high efficiency cycle. The effect will not only be reduced fuel consumption but a decrease of overall emissions, including CO2. The plant would generate 10% less CO2 on a per KWh basis than the typical coal plant in the region.

Patrick Kron, Chairman and CEO of Alstom, said: "Alstom is an expert in both plant engineering and plant components. This expertise, coupled with our leading position in clean-coal technology, means that we can offer our customers efficient and clean solutions for coal-fired power generation. We have a long history of supplying this customer and we are happy to be involved in what will be a landmark project in Central Europe."

*The pre-engineering contract for this project was signed on December 20, 2004. Today's signature marks the successful financing and the official launch of the project.

Alstom Wins EU900 Million Polish Power Plant Contract (Update1)
By Helene Fouquet and Nathaniel Espino

Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Alstom SA, the French maker of power stations that generate a quarter of the world's electricity, said it's won a contract valued at a minimum 900 million euros ($1.13 billion) to help build Poland's largest power plant.

The BOT Elektrownia Belchatow SA coal power plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2010, the Paris-based company said today. Alstom had signed a preliminary agreement for the work at the end of 2004.

Poland wants to accelerate an energy program to add capacity and avoid possible supply shortages in five to seven year's time. With power plants lasting about 30 years, the grid needs to replace at least 800 megawatts a year, on average, to maintain its current capacity and compensate for obsolete equipment.

``We are happy to be involved in what will be a landmark project in central Europe,'' Patrick Kron, Alstom's chief executive officer, said in a statement.

The BOT coal plant is the only one of three proposals for a combined 1,800 megawatts to have so far got financing. Alstom and BOT signed the final agreement today after working out details that weren't settled in 2004, BOT spokesman Daniel Dziewulski said by phone.

Kron is scheduled to host a news conference at 5:30 p.m. in Warsaw.

ALSTOM's first quarter 2006/07 orders and sales - Strong commercial performance with orders of €4.7Bn, up 32%
11 July 2006

Between 1 April and 30 June 2006, ALSTOM booked orders of €4.7bn, an increase of 32% versus the first quarter of fiscal year 2005/06 on a comparable basis. For the same period, sales at €3.2bn were up 3% on a comparable basis.

Orders received for the first quarter of fiscal year 2006/07 were at a very high level, with a strong growth in Power Turbo-Systems / Power Environment (+64% versus the same period last year), as a result of the booking of several turnkey gas power plant projects, and in Power Service (+30%). Transport's orders remained strong, 3% above the level of the first quarter of last year.

The total backlog, up to €28 billion, represents around 2 years of sales.

Sales for the first quarter of fiscal year 2006/07 were up 3% compared with the same period of the previous year. Sales in the Power Sectors were up 7% versus first quarter of fiscal year 2005/06, while sales in Transport were slightly down (-3%).

"The level of orders booked during the first quarter 2006/07 is the highest registered over the recent years. This very strong quarter was due to the booking of a large number of turnkey projects ; it also reflects the good positioning of ALSTOM on sound markets. Sales should progressively ramp-up during the fiscal year from an increase of 3% in the first quarter to 8% for the full year, on a comparable basis. This growth will notably be driven by the progression of sales in Transport expected in the second half", said Patrick Kron, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of ALSTOM.

An unprecedented scheme - ALSTOM shares the success of its recovery with its 60,000 employees
26 June 2006

Under the 'Awards for All' scheme, each of the 60,000 employees working in ALSTOM's 62 countries have been granted 12 free shares, or their equivalent*.

This initiative allows employees to share in the Group's collective success, and to be closely linked to its development strategy. Announced in November 2005 by Patrick Kron, Chairman & CEO of ALSTOM, the initiative was dependent on the achievement of the Group's major financial objectives, considered important for the Group's recovery, stated as positive free cash-flow and an operating margin of 5.6%.

With the announcement of the 2005/06 fiscal year results last May, ALSTOM confirmed that its objectives had been achieved, indeed exceeded, with a positive cash-flow of €525 million and an operating margin of 5%.

In line with the commitment made, employees in the 62 countries where ALSTOM is present will benefit from this scheme. This distribution of free shares will represent 0.5% of the Group's capital and will increase the stake held by employees to 1.5%. ALSTOM intends to further increase employees' shareholding in the Group's capital.

In clear terms, after an initial acquisition period of two years, then a vesting period of the same length, employees can sell their shares from 20 May 2010 onwards. On the same day, in countries where the allocation of shares has not been possible, employees will receive a cash equivalent of the 12 shares, based on an average of the share price over the previous 20 trading days.

"With 'Awards for All', ALSTOM employees can see their efforts rewarded, after a number of difficult years" says Patrick Dubert, Senior Vice President, Human Resources. "What's more, at the heart of a redefined, stronger Group, enjoying restored profitability and strong development prospects, employees will share in the success of their company over the years to come, associating their individual contribution to ALSTOM's collective success. 'Awards for All' will equally be an important tool for dialogue and objective sharing within the Group".

* on June 26, 2006 at 11hrs, ALSTOM's share was listed at €69,50 on the Paris Bourse. Twelve actions thus represented on this date the equivalent of € 834

ALSTOM returns to the CAC 40
26 June 2006 The ALSTOM share will return to the CAC 40 on 31 July 2006. This reintegration into the Paris Stock Exchange's index of top companies, which ALSTOM left in April 2002 during its crisis period, is unanimously greeted as a sign of the success of ALSTOM's recovery plan.
