17/7/2015 21:06 | FROM THE DAILY EXPRESS - 17/7/15 The Government looks set to grant licenses for energy companies to explore up to 65 per cent of rural Britain in the search for underground natural gas. That could see millions of people living in and around drilling sites lose up to 30 per cent off the value of their homes, including some of the country's best known celebrities. Fracking is a hugely controversial technique for extracting natural gas from under the ground. Critics have warned that the drilling destabilises the Earth and causes tremors and subsidence, which could damage people's homes for miles around. There have been reports of potential buyers pulling out of deals after discovering that fracking could take place nearby. Despite this, the Government has granted exploration and drilling licenses to fracking companies near some of Britain's most exclusive neighbourhoods and best-loved beauty spots. A leading property expert has warned that if property prices slump by just two per cent in areas earmarked for drilling, the total cost to the UK economy would be £75 billion. However, others have previously raised fears that prices could plummet by as much as 30 per cent - the same drop homeowners living near the proposed HS2 railway line have had to endure. If even just five per cent was wiped off house prices in affected areas, the toll would be a staggering £287.5 billion loss in value. | fox you
16/7/2015 09:47 | Good to see ALK moving up towards 30p, could well stall at that resistance level tho as seller's move in !all IMO & DYOR | cheshire man
16/7/2015 09:22 | Riv - One schoolboy error by the Mail on %; should be 10% not 1%. PS: if you follow your namesake, he came out of retirement to score in a game in which his son also played. Anyway, nice rise in share price at last. Be interesting to see how far it goes as in past when initial surge dies down, it often drifts lower again. | m4rtinu
16/7/2015 08:00 | Isn't the point that at the peak time in winter from 4 til 8 in the evening there will be no contribution from solar panels because it is dark! That is part of the problem with a sustainable energy approach. Nobby | nobbygnome
16/7/2015 07:36 | All those with solar panels stuck on their roof will be able to sell at a premium to the national grid ;-). And there goes the pig past my window. | tracy_moore
16/7/2015 07:21 | Nice plug in today's market report in the Mail too... "Alkane Energy, which operates mid-sized ‘gas-to-power& | rivaldo
15/7/2015 19:33 | The CEO of ALK was interviewed on Radio 5 about STOR this evening and gave a confident performance. I certainly learnt a few things! So perhaps we will see further rises if this publicity continues! GLA Nobby | nobbygnome
15/7/2015 17:44 | So basically you used to make out you were a miner so you could wear eye liner? Each to their own.... ;) Anyway, was looking to get back in here this morning, but thought no will hang fire until Greece pass laws IE tonight, and been out all day and come back to 10% up......... Grr | stegrego
15/7/2015 15:01 | Slightly off thread. Most of my school friends ended up down the Pit after leaving school. For thOse that cannot rememeber you were guaranteed a job there if your dad or close relative worked there. This week the last of my friends was made redundant from Thoresby Colliery so something of a closing chapter in my life. You could always spot a miner when out at night as it always looked as if they had mascara on from the coal dust temp staining. Anyway, no doubt more methane opportunities at Thoresby in the future. 15/7/2015 14:54 | Interest here today pushing the share price up :-) | cheshire man
15/7/2015 14:08 | Agree with your sentiment Mort. However, the outturn will depend on the weather. Last year was mild and ALKs STOR income was lower than hoped for. As someone mentioned on another thread, not clear how ALK can influence DEMAND-side? | m4rtinu
15/7/2015 13:57 | Good news for ALK, not so good generally "Britain's electricity supplies will be at their tightest level in a decade this winter, forcing the country to rely on emergency measures to ensure the lights stay on, according to official forecasts. The closure of three power stations has increased the risk of blackouts since last winter, new analysis by National Grid shows. The 'safety buffer' margin between peak winter electricity demand in and the output from Britain's ageing power stations is likely to fall to just 1.2 per cent - down from 4.1 per cent last year, it finds " | mortimer7
15/7/2015 12:27 | Great find GHF, adding to the run of good news. I can see the share price bouncing substantially from here - hopefully all the way back to 40p. | rivaldo
15/7/2015 11:42 | Don`t understand why no RNS on above | dan de lion
15/7/2015 08:45 | Further good news that I don't recall seeing posted on the thread. Alkane Energy wins National Grid DSBR contract for this coming winter. Alkane wins National Grid demand side balancing contracts for coming winter Alkane Energy plc (“Alkane&rdquo The contracts are to supply 57MW capacity to National Grid during the coming winter from within the Group’s existing portfolio of Power Response capacity. This is the second year Alkane has been successful in winning contracts to work with National Grid in this important programme. This award is a reflection of Alkane’s cost effective, flexible and highly reliable operating assets. The current generating fleet provides an ideal partner to National Grid in meeting its security of supply targets. The Grid programme is designed to cover the winter peak period from 4pm to 8pm each weekday between November and February. Alkane looks forward to working with National Grid on the DSBR programme in addition to our operations in the Short Term Operating Reserve (“STOR”) and the Capacity Market. 15/7/2015 08:08 | Cheers Folderboy, good find - and good news for ALK. | rivaldo
15/7/2015 06:40 | UK spare electricity capacity to fall this winter | folderboy
10/7/2015 17:00 | Trouble is, ALK didn't go UP when EDR went UP, it just went DOWN when EDR went down. | lageraemia
10/7/2015 09:05 | EDR share price was up 100% from late April to late June. Recently has fallen back 25%, may partly explain recent weakness in ALK sp; after what seemed like a v positive update. | m4rtinu
08/7/2015 19:47 | Does the budget and the stopping of CCL exemptions have any impact here? | stegrego |
