BARR boss Roger White has underlined the Scottish soft drinks giant’s capacity and appetite to make further acquisitions, but insisted its targets will not be driven by next year’s introduction of a sugar tax.

And Mr White, commenting after the Irn-Bru maker held a routine annual meeting in Glasgow, outlined his hope that the company will at least replicate the “double digit” percentage growth it saw in export markets last year.

Barr has been a vocal critic of the soft drinks levy, under which two bands of tax will be applied to producers from April next year – one at 18p per litre for drinks with a sugar content of 5g and over per 100ml, and one at 24p per litre for those containing more than 8g of sugar per 100ml.

The rock legends were blown away by the quick-thinking people at A.G. Barr who provided a Scottish feel to their World Tour

Heavy rock legends Iron Maiden have become the biggest fans of their Scottish namesake drink after the makers of Irn Bru played a blinder in surprising the band.

Scotland’s other national drink might just end up the unofficial favourite soft drink of the megaband’s tour after reacting very quickly to a social media comment.

The band were due to play Glasgow last night and Aberdeen tonight on their The Book of Souls World Tour.

Along with the Irn Bru hashtag, they also tagged it #makeithappen.

Those super clever people at AG Barr did exactly that and by the time the rockers arrived at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on Tuesday evening, a case of the one-off glass bottles of IRN MDN was waiting for them.

The band was suitably impressed and posted a picture of one of them, perched on an iconic Marshall amp, saying: “The good people at Irn Bru only went and bloody made 'em! Delivered to the venue today. Very well done folks”.

Fans and followers praised the move and even demanded the special bottles become a real thing.

Bubbly headphones wrote: “What? Are they just for the band or can fans at shows buy them?”

Glosbiker said: “Love Irn Bru and I’m from south west England. Would love it if this went on sale in shops, even for a limited time.”

Albundyuk asked: “Now come on @irnbru make this a national thing please.”

Clever onthesuperfly coined the catchphrase we all want to use: “"Maiden Scotland from girders!"

And Kennyboy absolutely nailed it: “In Scotland we use this for the morning after when u have too many drinks night before ( fir a hangover ).

So the Irn Bru will definitely get Iron Maiden through.

Top investment firm’s success down to investing in Irn-Bru instead of oil,/b>

A top City investor has revealed part of his secret for ethical investing – ditch oil and buy Irn-Bru.

Andrew Jones manages a £180m investment fund in the London’s Square Mile but an element of his strategy involves the HQ of AG Barr, 415 miles away in Cumbernauld.

He says buying shares in the makers of the iconic Scottish drink has helped boost the fund he runs, Henderson Global Care UK Income.

Henderson Global use ‘ethical’ funds, which means it only invests in companies which make ‘wise use of the natural environment’.
