When Boris Johnson becomes PM hasn't he stated that he will abolish the sugar tax? Potentially a great buy point here if that is the case.

It has been remarkable how the North East and Scotland have had such radically different weather from London and the South East this year. Ok the climates are different but London is heading for a drought with yet another warm sunny day today. Problem for BAG is that its products are seen as unhealthy down in the South. Even its juice drinks are high in sugar. I can see the shares suffering from further derating.

The boot might be on the other foot this time. Barr moved on Britvic when the latter stumbled; maybe the roles will be reversed now. Certainly the competition authority is unlikely to stand in the way after a full enquiry and consent was belatedly given last time. What an opportunity for Simon Litherland. Barr is a wounded beast.

Blimey - you don't expect a profit warning from AG Barr. Just shows that, even the best companies have poor years. Sounds like a good profit warning, rather than a bad profit warning. It will no doubt recover, but when you are on a P/E of 26 then obviously the share price gets slammed. Will continue to hold.

I am sure I have missed something here, but I cannot see what.

The price rose aggressively from about 10:45 AM and by about 4%, but there was no RNS, no news that I noted and no massive volume of shares traded.

I'm not griping as it was a surprise bonus from one of my more boring investments - but has anyone got a view on what happened today?

Or will a 7am RNS reveal all?

I'm tempted to set a buy order for the morning, but I don't know enough - perhaps I have to go the effort of waking up at 7am to work out what is actually going on.

Analysts backed soft-drink maker AG Barr's move to reduce sugar in its range ahead of the Government's tax hike on sugary drinks.

Investec has increased the target price of the Irn-Bru maker from 685p to 745p, adding that its lower sugar portfolio is 'well positioned to seize any growth opportunities'. Shares in the firm edged up 0.3 per cent, or 2p, to 690p.

FTSE 250-listed Irn-Bru drink maker AG Barr was up 3.3% after it said revenue rose to GBP277.7 million for the year ended January 27 from GBP257.1 million the year before.

Pretax profit climbed to GBP44.9 million from GBP43.1 million the year prior, and before exceptional items pretax profit came in at GBP44.1 million compared to GBP42.4 million.
