There is talk over on iii of these reaching 100p in the short to medium term.Mainly due to the MM being short of stock.I made a purchase through Barclays on Friday when the price quoted was 19-20p.Because my size of trade was over the NMS of 1000 I expected to pay more than 20p for these.Once my trade had been completed the stock was immediately marked up to 19-22p.This quite clearly shows that a small amount of buying (or selling ) will move this share price a long way.Volume on Friday was 181,000 which is very small in relation to 12.5million shares in circulation.IMHO this news has not fed through to the market yet and I believe a lot of people held of from purchasing simply because of the massive % rise in the share price on Friday. Those people waiting for price to fall back would have been very disappointed as the share price did not display any weakness late in the session.Monday should be an interesting day.

Picked this over from the iii bb.

Subject: A great Gamble??

There appear to be very few of us who hold these shares!
However, it is my opinion that this just could be an outstanding gamble!
The 50% rise on Friday may just be the start of a rapid move upwards as more news is announced. I will not, however, be suprised to see some profit taking on Monday.
A recent Broker comment published in Growth Company Investor is as follows -
"The Aim - listed coporate venturing group's first disposal is expected in 2001. AVM's deal flow and the regular disposal of its mature interests will drive its longer term prospects. Its deal flow is currently 4 times that of a year ago and Broker Beeson Gregory states that it has "more than enough" prospective clients to choose from. The disposal will free up management time and generate substantial cash to continue with new deals. The roll-out of the model over the next 3-4years should see the generation of sucstantial profits"
This was when the shares were at 17p ( market cap = £2.1m )

Personally I bought more a 17p ( a ridiculous 13 - 17p spread) but just maybe this purchase will pay off! I have no intentions of selling for 3-4 years!
I would strongly advise new comers to this share to read the excellent balanced summary on Everett as previously stated.

I have a feeling that this just might be a real winner and I wonder if it can do a BTG and leap over the next few years?

I am the eternal optimist and please do your own research!

Yours sincerely,
John

Sanderstwo,

Thanks, but I'm getting used to the quirks of Ofex.
Mind you, it helps that my first Ofex share was MMI (now MMG) - bought at 60 a few months ago, now on AIM at around the 140/150 mark. You're right, patience can pay.
I completely agree, however, that novices contemplating that market should be warned in the strongest terms.

As I said, I already bought a few Hearing Enhancement on Friday (without any trouble, on a 32-35 spread), and am thinking about going back for more.

Do you know whether this is usually an illiquid stock, difficult to trade?

I've been in Hearing Enhancement since the IPO in Sep 1996. I also purchased more shares in open offer in July 1997. The main concern with H.E. is that it is traded on Ofex. Personally no problem in trading (I bought and sold Advance Tech on Ofex), but I understand that it can be difficult to trade at times because it is a matched market. The disability of hearing impaired employees is now protected by law and HE offers a loop which means that employeees with a hearing aid can be comunicated with via a local loop. I attended the AGM in 1999 and was impressed by the management and products. IMHO if you are willing to part with cash and willing to sit on the shares for some time then this could be the company for you. If you are short term then perhaps not.

Before the announcement a couple of days ago, I'd never heard of ADE or Hearing Enhancement. The report I saw was on Off-Express where, you'll be pleased to know, the writer claimed that sources at Hearing Enhancement said contracts with other mobile telecoms are in the offing. I can't seem to get the Off-Express site at the moment but, when I do later today, I'll post the link to the article.

I've posted a general enquiry about HE on a separate thread -

As I say there, I'd be grateful for any information about that company.

I bought a few HE shares on Friday, and now (a bit late) I need to decide whether I've made a mistake or whether in fact to go on and build a larger stake. I'm hoping that someone familiar with ADE might be able to explain the discrepancy in valuations.

These are only rough calculations but, as I see it, at close of trade after the announcement on Friday, with HE at 34.5p (up 10p) and ADE at 25.5p (up 9p):

HE's mcap had increased by £638,000
ADE's mcap had increased by £1,118,000

If ADE's rise was wholly attributable to the news, then if both companies shares rose proportionately (with ADE gaining 25% of HE's rise), either ADE should now be 18p instead of 25.5p, or conversely HE should be 94.5p instead of 34.5p. Obviously we would all prefer the latter.

There are several possible explanations for this discrepancy.
1. I've got the figures wrong.
2. ADE might have risen too far - I hope not.
3. ADE has other things going for it which were brought into focus by the news.
4. Venture capital funds are sometimes valued at far greater than the sum of their parts (I don't know if this is true but, if so, it might be an explanation).
5. HE is an OFEX stock and not only are people wary (rightly so) of trading through OFEX, but shares in that market often experience a delayed reaction to news.

I clearly hope that the last reason is true, but I should like to learn your views and any other possible reasons. Then maybe I can make up my mind what to do.

Thank you.

interetsing chart.

- depending on what the patent looks like, the current cost structure of the company, the company leadership, the current market cap and (what should be a winner) - the orange factor

there could be significant upside to this.

I am going to spend some time researching to make a decision by Sunday evening.

thanks egghead. Madideas

An announcement this morning by a little known company by the name of Adaptive Venture Managers seems to have been overlooked by this bulletein board but not by the stock market.Started the day at 16.5p and closed up a massive 55% to end the day at 25.5p.

The reason for the rise was that one of the companies that ADE hold a stake in has signed an exclusive contract with Orange:-

RNS Number:2497Y
Adaptive Venture Managers PLC
2 February 2001

Adaptive Venture Managers Plc (the 'Company')

Re Contract

Adaptive CLIENT Company Signs Contract with Orange

Adaptive Venture Managers PLC is pleased to announce that its client company,
Hearing Enhancement PLC, has acquired a Patented technology and an associated
product, the SoundmateO which is to be supplied under an exclusive UK contract
to Orange.

An initial order has been received for this first product, which is a 'hands
free' mobile phone accessory that will allow hearing aid wearers to use
digital mobile phones. Additional UK and overseas market opportunities are
being developed.

Hearing Enhancement PLC was established in 1996 by Adaptive Venture Managers
PLC, the AIM listed corporate venturer who own 25% of the equity.

Further details of the market opportunities for this new technology are
expected shortly.

Adaptive Venture Managers also have stakes in some other compaies which are developing new products.
DYOR but this is one company that could be a good long term winner. The current market cap is just over £3m.
