Jim, you're too much of a worrywart! There's plenty more money to be made buying quality stocks at knockdown prices from GB PLC than buying in a euphoric market. Embrace the opportunities. spud

How do I find out how much has been spent to date on the share buy back to date

I know they originally allocated 150 million but had not been doing any serious share buys until the 22 just gone

The proceeds of the phnx share sale was I think 400 million and it was stated at the time of the intention to return the cash to shareholders

There was a further sale of shares in another company that raised approx 200 million recently
The share price at time of phnx sale was some 660 pence and the abdn share price was around 240

This smacks to be of gross mismanagement

I think the company should be put up for sale forthwith and the erstwhile bird-brained board should be sent flying

Even buying my initial stake down here has me somewhat concerned

What was the Level of the double bottom mentioned in another post please would help me decide whether to stick or bail

Troublesome times ahead

Appreciate any informaton

Double bottom 2009 was it in line with every other share eg Aviva lgen admiral dlg and the others if that ilk

What was double bottom am getting seriously concerned now especially after what to me as a ill thought out and badly timed mini budget yesterday

In light of same will hold back and conserve my remaining cash bought the old reliable divi payers yesterday phnx mng lgen at the expense of having to sell my Aviva but not to unhappy as had bought at 360 levels gutted that I missed the top at 470 level but was not expecting that car crash kamikaze kwarteng debacle yesterday

Job done for Labour party even Corbyn would walk the election now

Stuck with my Barclays and Lloyds for time being expecting things to be grim over next few weeks ? But not at hopeful

Would you believe I m an optimist !

Good luck everyone we will need it

Down and down and down it goes - this isn't a 5% short this is large institutional investors giving up on CEO Bird - and Flint the equally useless Chairperson - and voting with their feet. 5 years ago these were GBP5 each. Since Bird and Flint took over in 2021 they have more than halved. The people who have really lost out on this debacle are the millions of small LTH shareholders who were given stock at demutualisation and who ticked the 'drip' box. Clearly it is time for the independent non-execs to dismiss Bird and Flint and the rest of their cronies on the Board and bring in turn-around specialists with a new strategy.

The only saving grace is that they have not yet squandered the proceeds of the phoenix sale but by gum it was close

fenners66, nicely stated.

I've said previously, what kind of investment company sees a share-buyback as a better vehicle for investment? Abrdn exists ONLY to invest (wisely) the deposits of their customers.

Effectively that is

Investment manager aberdeen has hoisted the white flag up the pole and surrendered.
It now admits its shareholders know better how to invest £500m better than it does and
is giving them back the responsibility so they can get on with doing a better job.....

From yesterday

"Abrdn plans £500m shareholder payout to quell investor tension – reports"
FTSE 250 asset manager abrdn is drawing up plans to return up to £500m to shareholders as the Edinburgh-based house attempts to front run investor fury.

According to the FT, the board is discussing what the best mechanism for the return could be, including a special dividend, although all plans will be subject to regulatory approval.

Shareholders are set to receive an additional £400-500m before the end of 2022, with the asset manager likely to raise the cash by selling down stakes in other companies.

It's a 5 for 1 Stock Split, not a Consolidation. It means that for every share you own, you now have 5. The share price as a consequence is also divided by 5. spud

One of those weird share consolidations

Don t understand this share far less the machinations behind that one

Hence huge drop

Still holding in pattern for 140 initial target

Even more convinced that it will come about

News over the weekend about rumours of proposed cash return to share holders has not helped this morning

Only hope for shareholders is a takeover bid and I look upon that as more pie in the sky

Bird has to go and sooner rather than later

Exactly, nearly always a waste of shareholders money but an easy one for the BOD's to carry out and still pick up huge salaries!!

To many people bouncing around from company to company causing chaos and long term destruction in my opinion and are hired for the "experience" they bring!!
