Thats an interesting bit of history. I can remember visiting London from the suburbs with my dad in the 60’s, when the train was mainly occupied by men in black suits with hats, all reading newspapers. Seem to recall I was a bit freaked by them.

"Sell in May" was held as true pre Big-Bang when stockbrokers traded by open-outcry on the LSE floor. Some brokers, and this was in my time in the City, even wore top hats. Being a stock-broker then was very much an 'upper class' career. Without the right family connections you were unlikely to get a look-in*. Such men often owned a number of homes, a London home, often a country home and for a few a stately home.

For this demographic, decamping for 'the season' to follow the posh social events, major horse-racing meets etc was common, almost socially expected. Thus May to St. Swithins Day (this year 15/Jul) put markets in the deep freeze. IME/O this window has shifted in the modern era. IMHO it now seems more closely alligned with decamping for the summer holiday season.

*Which is why I started my City career in commodities, a decidedly more rough-neck market :)

Re: people asking for dividend dates, the simplest way to answer is to suggest they check dividenddata.co.uk There they just need to input the LLOY ticker and dates, sums, history other useful core metrics -->

No registration, fees or connections etc.

p.s. If you wish to quickly scan div dates/£s etc for a portolio, simply replace the 'Lloy' in the above URL with the tickers. Easy as that.

Cummings to name his new party " The Disassociation Party" after his modus operandi! Remember well his attempt to fire all independent/special advisors to no 10 apart from himself! Insisted that Javid alone fired every single one of his five! LOL!

What a bizarre statement "the Sell in May adage is rarely wrong" - please provide us your evidence, it is rarely right. I think 70% wrong in recent years!

Very true ;-)

Actually I looked at the long term chart a while ago and posted on one of these threads that a target of 60-70p seemed reasonable on the chart. I now adjust my target to 63.25p as I have fundamental issues with the Deutsche bank’s number.

That will be £2000 per advfn poster please.

Lloyds a 'buy', says investment bank; here's why

Deutsche Bank has initiated coverage of Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LSE:LLOY) with a 'buy' rating and a price target of 61 pence with analysts expecting margins to stabilise in the third quarter.

The benefits of what it described as a 'structural hedge' are likely to offset the adverse effects of potential base rate cuts, it added.

In a note to clients, Deutsche also points to a reduction in the number of shares by 14% from 2023 to 2026 and an increase in the capital conversion rate from 88% to 107% as potential positive financial drivers. As a result, Lloyds' free cash flow yield is expected to reach about 16% by 2026.

Additionally, the bank's tangible net asset value (TNAV) is projected to rise by 33% to 68p by the end of 2026, it said.

While Lloyds is targeting a return on tangible equity (ROTE) greater than 15% for 2026, the German bank's forecast is slightly conservative at 13.7%.

However, an anticipated increase in the hedge's effectiveness could narrow this gap. It's important to note that the "cash ROTE," which considers the bank's deferred tax assets—the largest in the sector—will be approximately 0.90 percentage points higher than the reported ROTE.

The analysis also acknowledges potential risks from the Financial Conduct Authority's Motor Market Review. However, a "reasonable" worst-case scenario would limit the cost to about 3.5 pence per share, with a strong likelihood of lower impacts similar to those seen in past financial protections like the Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) redress schemes.

In afternoon trading the stock was changing hands for 54p - barely changed on the day.

Incredible admission...'why does the US/UK governments sell bonds to borrow money when it can just print the money'...well actually the central bank prints the money - it's a massive Ponzi scheme/scam. And that's the problem with fiat money, it's not real.

RUSSIAN AEROSPACE FORCES RECEIVE ANOTHER BATCH OF SU-35S FIGHTER JETS (VIDEO)

Support SouthFront

The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) received another batch of Su-35S fighter jets which were produced by the Gagarin Aircraft Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) announced on May 8 .

“The plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur has reached a rhythmical production pace this year. It is the second batch of combat aircraft delivered to the Aerospace Forces. The plant fulfills the commitments in the deliveries of new aircraft and works to create new batches of serial Su-35 and Su-57 jets,” UAC CEO Yury Slyusar said.

The company said that the newly-built fighter jets passed ground and flight trials and flew from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to the deployment airfield.

The Su-35S was designed by the JSC Sukhoi Company to engage all types of aerial targets in long and close ranged air battles as well as to attack ground and sea-surface targets including those covered by air defenses and located far behind the frontline.

The fighter jet is equipped with the advanced Irbis-E multi-mode, hybrid passive electronically scanned array radar system, which can detect and track up to 30 airborne targets at one time at ranges of up to 350 kilometers and attack up to eight of them.

It can be armed with a variety of advanced long-range precision-guided weapons, including the R-37 air-to-air missile, the Kh-59 land-attack cruise missile, the Kh-58 anti-radiation missile and the Kh-35 anti-ship cruise missile.

This was the second batch of Su-35S fighter jets to be delivered to the VKS this year. The first batch was handed over on April 11.

More than 100 Su-35S are currently in service in the VKS. The Su-35 first demonstrated its advanced combat capabilities during counter-terrorism operations in Syria, then in the course of the special military operation in Ukraine.
