Proxim Introduces Point-to-Point Wireless Bridges for
Cost-Effective, Broadband Wireless Solutions
New Tsunami QuickBridge II and GX Products Provide High-Performance, Low Cost
Alternative to Leased Lines and Fiber-Based Solutions
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Proxim Corporation
(NASDAQ:PROXD), a global leader in wireless networking equipment for Wi-Fi and
broadband wireless networks, today announced that it has added three new
products to its family of Tsunami Point-to-Point Wireless Ethernet Bridges. The
Tsunami QuickBridge II Wireless Outdoor Bridge and Tsunami.GX 32 and GX 90
point-to-point wireless Ethernet bridges are license-exempt wireless bridges
that give service providers, government agencies, municipalities and
enterprises, cost-effective, high-capacity, broadband wireless connectivity.
Amongst the three products' industry-leading features is support for integrated
voice, to give customers a simple voice and data connectivity solution that
eliminates the cost and delay associated with deploying traditional leased line
and fiber-based solutions.
The new Tsunami products address a wide range of applications that can deliver
significant time and cost savings to enterprise business customers, government
agencies and municipalities, and service providers including both wireline and
wireless ISPs. These applications include LAN and PBX extension, voice and data
backhaul from remote Points of Presence (POPs), dedicated connections for
high-capacity subscribers and redundancy between locations.
"Our Tsunami broadband wireless products deliver strong cost and deployment
advantages over leased lines and fiber-based alternatives," said Lynn Lucas,
vice president of product marketing for Proxim. "With integrated voice
support, the new Tsunami solutions can extend voice services across campus
networks and beyond."
Tsunami QuickBridge II
The Tsunami QuickBridge II Wireless Outdoor Bridges are fully user-installable
wireless point-to-point bridges designed specifically for reliable long
distance and low latency voice and data connectivity. The QuickBridge II
products gives customers a "hop in a box" solution combining two radios,
integrated antennas, cables, mounting hardware and power supply, as well as
complete installation software and audible configuration tools for quick and
easy installation and set-up. For comprehensive network management, the
QuickBridge II combines full SNMP support with a Java-based management tool.
In addition, the QuickBridge II delivers industry-leading reliability -- up to
99.995% RF link reliability. Finally, the QuickBridge II can provide
significant price/performance improvements as compared to both T1 and leased
DS3 circuits. With its dramatic cost savings and capacity that ranges from 26
to 54 Mbps, the QuickBridge II can enable a variety of customer business plans
and deliver exceptional ROI.
Tsunami.GX 32 and Tsunami.GX 90
The Tsunami.GX 32 + 2xT1/E1 delivers 16 Mbps full-duplex capacity, at ranges
over 40 miles for voice and data services, and features two integrated T1 or E1
interfaces for channelized voice traffic. The Tsunami.GX 90 + 2xT1 offers DS-3
(45 Mbps) performance for distances over 8 miles and provides two integrated T1
interfaces operating in the less crowded 5.3 GHz U-NII band. Based on Proxim's
GX broadband wireless platform, the Tsunami.GX 32 and Tsunami.GX 90 deliver the
industry's highest license-exempt output power (+23.5 dBm for 5.8 GHz; +13dBm
for 5.3 GHz), embedded software tools to reduce deployment and management costs
and a split-box architecture that allows for maximum flexibility in customers
settings, enabling all-indoor or combination indoor and outdoor configurations.
Pricing and Availability
The Tsunami QuickBridge II Wireless Outdoor Bridges are available now at a U.S.
list price of $6,499 for the QuickBridge II 60 Link, and $7,999 for the
QuickBridge II 40 + 2xT1/E1 Link. The Tsunami.GX 32 + 2xT1/E1 and Tsunami.GX
90 + 2xT1 5.3 GHz are also available now, with U.S. list prices of $7,399 and
